USA cities to live in - help please!

Hey Guys/Gals,

I am escaping the cold this winter here in Toronto and want to venture south (Dec, Jan, Feb) somewhere in the US. I have 2 boys (8months & 2.5years) and a wife so I am looking for a small town/city with the following:

1) EST Time Zone or within 1 hr
2) Safe
3) Restaurants close by
4) 5 min walk to the beach

I don't need a good night life since I'm at home by 8pm most nights, unless friends come down to visit, in that case we can drive or take a cab to the clubs.

I was thinking Delray Florida as one possibility?

Can you guys give any suggestions???

I was actually going to suggest Florida. Besides hurricanes, it's a pretty sweet place to live.

I'd like to get out of Michigan's cold, but it just isn't going to happen anytime soon.
 
You would be correct AMagz, I live in Boca Raton, FL and it's a great place.

A bit expensive but definitely worth it, tons of nice restaurants and local hotel/motels. There is a road every 5 miles or so that will take you right to the beach, easily within walking distance as well. Oh, and you would *not* believe how many beautiful women are here...I would gloat right now but even I'm shocked at the ratio ;)
 
Im from south florida and best time to be there is in the winter. If you want to be close to an airport, beach and restaurants or bars then i would recommend hollywood or fort lauderdale. Young Circle in hollywood is where all the restaurants are and not very far from the beach. Las Olas in fort lauderdale is the area in fort lauderdale.

Just remember florida has good and bad pockets anywhere you go, especially delray.
You are close to the WPB airport from delray however its a small airport and not a lot of direct flights coming out of it and more expensive. If you like the north area I would recommend boca raton or Deerfield beach (my fav). So then you are convenient to either airport to WPB and FLL airports. If you go south to hollywood/fort lauderdale then you are convient to FLL and MIA airports. If you do a lot of international traveling then you will be going out of MIA.

No matter where you choose to go i would Recommend living EAST of I-95.
 
Florida would be my choice. You can get a pretty cheap rental. I have a business acquaintance thats renting a million dollar condo for only 2k a month. Get yourself a nice place by the beach.

Ya I looked in sunny isles, a bit too busy for me, there definitely are some deals in Florida right now. All you guys bitching about the states should take a step back for a second, its a great country...for the most part ;)

Boca sounds good too.
 
ill take bugs and the hottest shit you can throw at me over snow and cold wind.

BC is awesome but not hot enough
 
Check out Wilmington, NC . The temperatures do not stay in beach range, but coming from Canada the moderate climate is great as it is on the Gulf Stream. You can rent reasonably inexpensively on the beach in the off season in some amazing homes at Wrightsville Beach. The restaurants are great and it is a university city near the beach so baby sitters are cheap.

Boca Raton is not a touristy-town at all...

I missed what you posted about Delray Beach, I would probably stay away from there, they have ghettos and high-class areas right directly next to one another...literraly 20 feet between them...those "pockets" a previous poster was talking abuot...

Plus, it only takes 15 minutes to get there from Boca, I worked on Downtown Atlantic Ave. in Delray for 5 years and, oddly enough, lived in the ghetto for about a year...but its different when you live there as opposed to visiting ;)

Someone mentioned Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale as well...thats also a good spot, still with its bad areas though...
 
For my money, you cant beat Charleston, SC.. US News and World Report many years in a row the friendliest city in the United States. Plenty of water, fresh and salt water.. A lot of old money, not all that big really and not like any other city that you will see. You gotta check it out.. Fucking great place to live, man.
