Obama's first news conference and he's already issuing apologies.

I don't know what the big deal is...

Nancy Reagan "spoke" to Eleanor Roosevelt after holding a seance in the White House. Read her daughter's book, "The Way I See It"... she talks about the seances: Amazon.com: The Way I See It: An Autobiography: Patti Davis: Books

And I don't see "um's and uh's" as being that bad. Annoying, sure. But at least he's not making up words and butchering the English language like Bush.

Of course it's not a big deal to you. Just like Bush's butchering of the English language isn't (or wasn't, should I say?) a big deal to me.

Also, it was Hillary Clinton, who channeled Eleanor Roosevelt, not Nancy Reagan.

He is nervous, give him a break eh?

My mistake, I just looked it up and she held seances to communicate with family members. She (Nancy) regularly had a psychic visit the White House and the psychic is the one who "talked" to Eleanor... Which is probably what lead to Hillary's story.

Point is, seances in the White House have been a big joke ever since the Reagan's left. Ronald Reagan used to joke about it too... He said he just went along with everything to make Nancy happy.

Anyway, it's funny.

And Bush's butchering of the English language doesn't bother you, but Obama's "uh's" do enough to make a thread about?

If you didnt know, Obama held his first news conference today, and aside from his 450+ "um's and uh's", his looking down at his script, and his barely addressing questions proposed (not unusual), he also found it prudent to make a joke about the widow of a past President.

Good start.

Ben Smith's Blog: Obama apologizes to Nancy Reagan for 'careless' joke - Politico.com

YES WE CAN!

Um...uh...and what does this have to do with the market closing up by 248.02 points (2.85%)?????

If ums and ahs and slightly missed placed jokes by GWB had reduced this effect vs. a record debt, pitifully low dollar and burdensome debt, I would have asked for a constitutional amendment - Putin-style - to get him a 3rd term...

Care to focus on substanc now?

Yes, we obviously can......

Lots of pressure on him not to raise taxes. Unemployment numbers come today; 6.5% 14 year high. Projections to 7.5% soon. What a start, poor guy. I wasn't a supported just feel sorry for him. Hope hill do the right thing; and focus on stimulating the middle class, and small business. Maybe start large road repair project to re-leave the construction job loss a little. We got a long road ahead of us.

Well I think it's kinda cool that even though you didn't support him you're at least willing to give him a chance...

I am impressed by your even-mindedness. There's alot of talent on this board - think about what could happen if we all channeled it towards something positive. With all the people looking for jobs, there's enough ideas on this board - and people doing well - to put people to work....

That's more money in our pockets and maybe some Christmas toys under the tree for some kids whose parents don't have job.

I passionately believe in conservative strategies to deal with "liberal" problems like helping the poor, the sick, the unemployed etc. Nobody should wait around for the government to make things happen.

If people are out of work, those of us with drive and ambition can create jobs which not only benefit us but benefit other citizens. The gov't can and should play a part in bad times - esp. with regard to the helpless - but as the Polish say "self help is the best help!"

And Bush's butchering of the English language doesn't bother you, but Obama's "uh's" do enough to make a thread about?

My point in making the thread was the point out the amateur and sophomoric performance given by our President-elect, not to mention his poorly received joke, and his factual inaccuracy which resulted in him having to personally call the widow of a former President to apologize. The puppet is finally off the marionette strings, and it's not looking good. Let me also say: I support Barack. He's my President. If he sent me to war I would go. But this press conference was embarrassing, to say the least. For the most part, he's getting shit about it from the pundits and across the blogosphere, so hopefully he sharpens up before January 20. He won't be able to spend the next 4 years reading from a teleprompter.

And besides, for the last 8 years, people have been pointing out every little minute detail about Bush. Kind of annoying, isn't it?

So are you going to bash him or not?

I think you misread what I wrote, try again.

You and those from the blogosphere are posting about Obama's incompetence less than after he is elected. No doubt that you might have pointed them out before he was elected.

But then you go on and state how annoying it was to constantly hear all about Bush's incompetence.

Soooo what it's gonna be? Are you going to annoy or not? You've already got a head start.

Obama is allready stating that his tax plans will have to wait until the economy gets better.

LOL..either socialism works or it doesn't. Take a shit or get off the pot Obama!

I am ready for the collapse. Let's see what socialism will actually do to this economy. Millions of Americans were fuckin stupid enough to get caught up in the cult of personality. Let them see the outcome of their choice!

YES WE CAN!

It closed up 250 points today and fell around, what, like 800 points since Obama was elected?

YES WE CAN!

Can we please stop this? It's silly to say, "It closed up 250 points today and fell around, what, like 800 points since Obama was elected"...

And the unemployment figures - courtesy of the present administration, the HIGHEST IN 14 YEARS - has nothing to do with this right????

There is no way any rational, even slightly unbiased person can argue that Obama will look as sophomoric as GWB. Everyone can pretty much agree on this.

Yes he will make mistakes. Yes we should offer constructive criticism when he does.

I'm always curious though when people go looking for the bad things. Bush brought out his economic team a good 6+ weeks after being elected (during an economic downturn). Clinton did it in December, a good 4 plus weeks (during a recession).

How funny that you focus on a couple of words while the market (and the rest of the world, just check the international press) reacted to a man who could assemble some of the greatest business and policy minds there are (Republican and Democrat) less than 1 week after being elected.

If Bush would have demonstrated such expedience, I would have gladly accepted his hiccups circa Nov 2006 when he discussed a decision being made on "February 30th" anyday (see in his own words - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FLvwlLv65Y )....

There's no other country on the face of the earth that has the business genius that was assembled in that room during his 1st press conference - NO OTHER COUNTRY.

Haters of the world, you think Americans can't do anything we set our minds to?

YES WE CAN!

Uh, WTF. He is the president elect, not the president yet. After 8 fucking years of GB fucking embarrassing us and our language, you pick on Obama for some ums? Seriously need to get your head strait.

GB made a fool of our country for 8 years, but idiots still voted for him 4 years ago. Step your game up.

I'm a democrat but not necessarily an Obama supporter, but damn.
