@MDSandB: 5 people are in, you're of 'em. You pick your own niche. We can kick off right now!

Ok, so here's the updated list of people enrolled after I explained exactly what it will entail:
  1. PhillipMarlow
  2. zmxn73
  3. MDSandB
  4. dien 08
  5. writtenstyle (unconfirmed: just waiting for a response to my PM)
To all those who didn't make it, perhaps there'll be another chance at some point in the future, we'll see.

Right guys, here is what I'm suggesting...

...that each of you pick a topic you have some interest in, ideally you'll be really passionate about it. Then you pick a domain name that suits (I'll veto it for you to make sure) and go onto make a "site".

You can do whatever you like within the confines of Wordpress, which I think is pretty much anything. However, I'm suggesting that you stick to blogging for now as that's the easiest thing to get started with.

I'm open to other suggestions if you like, but this is what I have in mind. So your first task is to pick a niche/topic, and then go away and think of a domain name. Use www.bustaname.com to help with that.

Also, if you could all contact me with your preferred contact email address so that we can talk individually.

Guys, it's been only been 48 hours and I'm sorry if you feel I've not gotten back to you soon enough. I should have mentioned this earlier but I check forums and blog posts etc only 4 times a week.

That's Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. This is for my own productivity. Just because I don't reply to a PM immeadiately does not mean I've disapeared into thin air.

I've been away visiting a friend since Sunday morning as it happens anyway, which is why I haven't responded to any of your PM's. I will respond to each of you individually in a moment.

Right, I have emailed or PM'd all the people who requested their involvement starting with the top 5 in the thread. The line up has changed and I'll post the final list once I've received word from everyone that they are willing to take part.

I understand why people might not want to participate as what I am offering is only benefical to those who have never really ventured into internet marketing before. For everyone else, there's a ton of resources on WickedFire alone and you don't need someone to hold your hand I'm sure.

Hopefully I'll be able to update this thread with some kind of productive activity soon :)

I sent you a pm a few days ago and haven't received one back. And you said that I was one of the participants. :s

As it says in my last post, I have PM'd/emailed all those involved. Check your email, I sent it about a day ago.

Update

For everyone who is keeping an eye on this case study, here's an update for you.

So far we have one member who has started work and is officially taking part in this challenge. We are finalising what the blog will be about and getting a domain name picked.

A few people have dropped out because they already know most of what I'm offering and they felt that it was best that only the "super noobs" as it were took part in this.

A few other people have yet to get back to me. I've sent quite a few PM's out and to be honest I've had quite enough. Feel free to disagree with me if you want, but I am taking my own time out from my own business to help other people get a step up - the least people could do is PM me back with a "no thank you" after already stating their interest to me either by PM or in this thread.

For those that can't be arsed replying to me, feel free to carry on doing what you do - I hope you go far. I guess it's no skin off my nose and all that, but it still pisses me off a little bit.

I've PM'd the others that posted in this thread that weren't originally included because they replied too late, and they've got a chance to take part now as well. Call me negative, but I'm not expecting any replies.

It might have something to do with me stating that making money on the internet isn't easy, who knows. But it's true what people say, about 99% of people reading forums like Wicked Fire just read, and only 1% actually get off their arse's and put in the work.

most worthless thread evah. recipients not happy, op not happy. everyone pointing fingers at each other and playing 'poor me'

DBWebDev - for something like this to work you really need to be more available. stating you only check threads a few times a week probably turned some off. if this was offered like a boot camp where you were available for questions several times during the day then there might have been some more action. noobs probably could get the same info w/ a little googling and no strings attached.

that's what it looked like from my perspective. road to hell paved w/ good intentions.

Takes a lot of patience and time to make noobs happy.

I have been moderating the newb forum, so I know.

Yes, definitely be more available for the duration of your challenge. (Ha* I am one to speak)

Be there every day and even feed some without being asked.

So ... to get this started.

What have the challenges been?
What made the people turn away?
Where is the guy who is working on it right now? get him posting as well.

What are you up to?

KEEP US INFORMED...we are all news whores so come on, man, feed us some sweet news crack!!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments. I do need to be more available perhaps, gonna have to whip out the damned MSN messenger or something (oh noes). I'm on the net all day every day, but not on forums and stuff. I'll just try and be more organised.

What is the challenge

The challenge is simply to make a blog, ideally one that will make money ;)

The main part of this challenge is to actually get the content on the blog and then promote the hell out of it without having to spend any money (cos we all know that noobs have no money).

There are plenty of ways of monteizing blogs, even without having to get masses of traffic, and that's what we'll go onto once the blog gets some traffic.

What has made people turn away

Mainly it's because they know just as much (maybe more?) than me. For these guys I'm pretty sure they'll see some kind of success within the next few months without my help.

I think some people were a bit pissed off at my lack of availability, fair enough.

And I think a couple of guys registered on the forum after seeing my post, said "I want in" and then disapeared, never to be seen on WickedFire again.

Where's the guy that's working now?

zmxn73 - my last email to him was a suggestion on his domain name and some info on what to do next. That was a day ago so I probably should follow emp's advice and start prodding (where's my cattle prod?).

Hopefully he can update his progress on here too.

What about the rest?

I have another 4 people who have officially put their names down for the challenge in the last day or so, and I'll be updating their progress as well.

Last year when I was blogging I bought hosting packages for 10 readers and two of those readers make a fulltime living online. I talk to both of them nearly everyday. Had they not had that initial push, who knows where they would be now.

That is really freaking awesome. May I be there in a year.

Hey Guys thought I would add my progress so far. I emailed David (DBWeb) back. I was away for the last couple of days up the coast with mates, so I've been a little unavailable too.

Anyway I thought I'll update you guys with my progress so far. But first a little background knowledge of who I am and why I'm a noob who would love all the help he can get. (David asked me a few questions about myself and I'll copy and paste my reply email in here)

"Quote from email - Just a little background on myself before I tell you my progress. I've just finished highschool this term, so I'm new out of school and looking to begin IM. I've currently got a part time job down at the local aged care facility working in the kitchen. As well as trying to
learn about blogging from yourself (David), I'm trying to start a bit of article 'bum' marketing as I've got pretty much close to nothing in terms of start up capital (so PPC advertising and all that is not an option at the present time). So I'm trying to make some money generating ads on USFreeAds and starting to write a few Ezine Articles. As of now I'm yet to make an affiliate sale but have only been in affiliate marketing for the last week and a bit (I've been reading up on Internet Marketing and all that for the last month before actually getting into it)."

Anyway as our emails have gone so far I picked out my niche. That niche is learning the German language. There were a few reasons why I chose this niche. Firstly I have been learning the German language for the last 5 years at school, and really enjoy it. And as I've read a fair few times before on WF "whenever starting a blog do something that interests me." And Learning the German Language does that exactly. I also had other options such as a blog on tennis (but after a bit of research on my behalf I realised its a ridiculosly overpopulated niche, that probably wouldn't be good for a self-confessed noob). I also had another option that was a blog on 'travelling to sydney' (my hometown) but realised that might be a bit hard starting out. I also had an original idea which was to set up a review website on clickbank products, but David wasn't an expert in that area of affiliate marketing and therefore said to stay with a blog.

Anyway back to the other reasons I chose to start a blog on learning the german language (and possibly branching out into other aspects such as blogging on the german culture from a foreigner perspective etc.) is because there are some good products to promote that teach you how to learn the german language (such as a few I've seen on Clickbank). And also learning the german language is a niche with small competition so therefore would be easier for an asshat such as myself to startout.

----

After deciding on my niche, I had to choose a domain name. After doing a google search on a domain checker I tried to figure out a domain name. After a few hit and misses I originally came to the name Wortakrobatik.com (which translates to 'juggling with words' or 'verbal gymnastics' in German). I emailed this to David though he suggested I choose a domain name that was written in english (as its the target audience's language) so therefore I've emailed him back with my 2nd choice being 'learn2speakgerman.com.' I'm currently waiting for a reply back. (We live on opposite sides of the world so communication kinda sucks a bit since i'm asleep when he's awake and vice versa).

Anyway as a self-confessed noob I really like to have all input from all those who have some idea on what they're talking about. So if you've got any suggestions to add to the table please reply. In other words, what is your opinion on my niche and domain name? Also any tips for content, and what areas I should look at when posting content on my blog? Such as my option to diversify into blogging on German Culture as well, since there's not a steady stream of information I can write on my blog when it comes soley to 'learning the german language'

edit: Also If anyone out there's got some good advice on article 'bum' marketing in particular with using USFreeAds in how I can improve my profits that would also be appreciated, since I'm doing a bit of that on the side to make some money, in order to spend it on other more expensive aspects of Affiliate Marketing. Thanks. =)

Hopefully I can update you in the next few days, and would like to thank David once again for his commitment to help me.

Cheers

and wow this has been a long post....congratulations to whoever read all my ramblings... =)

I would also rather go with learn2speakgerman.com for the primary site.

Wortakrobatik.com could be a side project for advanced learners, might draw a following if written nicely with a bit of humor (Articles focusing on the quirks of German and English).

BUT

I would put that on the bak burner and concentrate on the site for new learners, as there are also more products to be sold for that crowd.
