Fucking auto industry. Detroit fucking sucks.

So, I guess this means I might have to start taking this shit more seriously. I was making about $70k/year, so I need to at least figure something out to maintain that level - I gots kids to feed.

Right now, MyNextCollege.com makes the most money for me, but nowhere near enough. I might have to start getting creative with this shit.

Any suggestions (other than to hang myself) would be cool. Or the passwords for all your online banking shit would be fine.
 


find the best dayjob you can while you pour the rest of your time into making money online until you are making more than enough to support yourself with your online efforts. THEN quit your job and continue the online stuff full time.
 
Well, definitely don't hang yourself. If you're here, then your in the right place. That site you have there looks pretty kick ass! You should try and discover some more niches , and use the same techniques use used to build that site to where it is today! That shit sucks, I feel for you man, but like you said you got kids so you definitely need to get something while you sharpen up on your affiliate marketing skillz so that can pay the billz ;)

Did you sell cars? I know someone who just got fired last week from Ford and got a job at Mitsubishi the next day.

Stay positive no matter how rough things get...that way you're more likely to see a good opportunity when it's there.
 
If you have kids, your first priority should be securing a job, ANY job, that provides health insurance.

I'm not sure the auto bailout would help much in the long run. But you probably know more about it than me.
 
Oh man that blows... Blame you greedy CEOs that think it's ok to ask for $25b when their annual pay + bonuses is maybe 0.5% of that... In fact, shoot him an email and ask if he'd like to donate some of his bonus to you, and then sell the emails to some tabloid news show.

But yeah, now is a shit time to be looking for work. Job markets tend to open up in Feb. In the meantime, you've obviously got web development (not that you need them anymore if you wok at a company that still doesn't know about Wordpress templates ;)), project management, and team management skills, never mind the advertising shtick you've learnt with your AM stuff. It should be possible to get a decent whitecollar job paying somewhere around what you were making.

Worst case scenario, there are other English countries that aren't in nearly as bad a sitaution at the moment. You could start anew in New Zealand or something.
 
Call your affiliate managers find out whats hot right now get as much info on that niche and offer get a credit card and go big. or start answering posts on craigslist elance for jobs you can do from home copy writing,photoshop,landing pages.
 
This will all blow over. The government stimulus will start making a difference. Plus, have you seen the price of gas these days. I think the extra buffer there will help companies and people more than we realize, at least for a short while.

It's tricky for companies right now. They are scared too, but come the beginning of next year, budgets will reset and companies will start hiring. Concurrently, Obama will come in to office and the honeymoon year will brighten up the markets.

In the meantime, cut expenses like it's your job and you'll hang on.
 
Pushing snow with a snow plow is pretty good money. The job usually starts at $12/hr. on up for experienced drivers. Its not a full time gig or 70k/year. but it is decent money here and there while you are working on your internet stuff.
 
If you eat your children, you'll save on your grocery bill & pay less for insurance, clothing and many other bills.

Stay out of retail or you'll have the same problems again in a few months, it's tight across the board.

With a family, you are in a tough spot seeing how the economy is. Does your wife work? If you can't find anything quick, 2 part time jobs can get you guys by for a little bit.

I doubt they are going to get the money. Ford even said they don't need it, they got plenty of cash reserves.
 
If American cars didn't suck so much this wouldn't be an issue. But, American cars do suck... and suck bad. A bailout isn't gonna do crap.
 
You should get a job that supports your IM ventures in the first place.. I believe it's pretty rare you'll be able to support yourself and your family with IM and it takes time so...

I think best option for you is to get some less paying day job that teaches you what you need to know in order to make your site successful. It could be Adwords company so you would learn PPC by making campaigns to other people etc.
