How to start?

Hi. I'm new to affiliate marketing, but very motivated to start. I want to specialize in the dating niche, what do you think about it? How difficult will it be to get started and get a profit of $400-$500 a month? How high is the risk of failing?

My first actions will be:
1) Use a web design template to create a website, fill with content
2) Use AdSense to advertise
3) Link exchange with related sites
4) Find affiliate programs
5) Use Facebook, Digg, Delicious and other web 2.0 projects to promote my site.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you are doing a site make sure you have good content good pics and the layout is easy and clean. Link exchange is good, just make sure you get unique links on different sites that are also relevant. Get good keywords that have traffic. Not like "dating" way too much competition if your starting out, and research the ever-loving hell out of your keywords.
