Hey guys,



Is there something you kind of always wanted but weren't sure if you were going to put to any use... for me it's always been a tablet to draw on the PC. I was at future-shop and saw one for 60$, I paid this for a steak and a beer the other day so I justified my purchase that way..

I have to say WOW, I am absolutely astonished at how perfect it is to use, cannot believe I didn't get one before. If you do anything in photoshop, I'm sure a lot of you do, or you just want to spice up your landing pages (I feel like I'm writting one for this product lol) I highly recommend you get one.

Wacom rolls out "Bamboo" tablet - Engadget

It has great reviews on amazon and I've found it perfect. Just wanted to share as I've been greatly pleased with it and one of my buddies bought one for his gf after playing with it for 5 minutes.
 


Honestly just way toooo small. If you shop around you can score some good deals on some older Intous's. I have a 9 x 12 Intous.

Once you get a bigger tablet you'd never go back. And hell if you really want to ball you have to get a cintiq Cintiq - Product Overview, blam!
 
If you're using the tablet as a HID, then a Bamboo is fine. IF you're actually attempting to do any sort of graphic work with it, they're a toy at best, and crap at worst.

What shits me is the way that the Bamboo has been used as as justification for the fairly substantial price increase for the previously "budget" line, the Graphire.
Whilst it was the "low end" product, it was still perfectly serviceable for real design work, being that it had tilt sensitivity, as well as 512 levels of pressure, and even the "small" one was a serviceable size.

But yeah, just using it for an interface device, the Bamboos are decent.
 
I had a nice Intuos 3... until some fuck ass security guard at my apartment stole it and disappeared. Note to self: never rent an apartment where the security guards only make 5 dollars a day. Fucking Ass...

He prolly sold it and only made about 100 dollars off of it. It was a larger model and brand new, in Thailand, its around $500.

Bamboo is fine if you just want to scribble some shit on photoshop. Intuos models have pressure and tilt sensitivity which automatically changes brush strokes and densities for you. They're fucking amazing for digital freeline art and digital painting. Clintiq is what the top guys are using for digital animations and paintings in Japananes animation and comics.

If you are just doing web layouts and shit like that though, you're probably well off enough with a mouse and keyboard though. A tablet takes a good while to get used to as well.
 
This is probably a stupid question but what do you guys do with all the extra space? Is it simply to do broader strokes? Is it the annoyance(minor) of having to center the page sometimes so you don't work on the outside rim?

Some features you guys mention sound pretty awesome, but it all depends what you need it for I guess. I haven't done a whole lot with it yet, other than drawing for fun / getting used to it.

Any of you guys have links to some works you did with these tablets?
 
More space equals more resolution and more fidelity/accuracy of the pen device. Plus, if you didn't notice, with the Cintiq's the tablet is an LCD screen which you draw/paint directly on.

I don't have any work done with a tablet myself, though I did own a Wacom on my first computer, a Mac PPC 8200 back in the mid 90s.

This guy is an amazing fantasy/sci fi artist from Russia that does all of his work exclusively on a Wacom though... Anry`s Home Page

I used mine mostly for doing line art [for comics], and the such. The smaller tablets are just too hard to control.

Even if you where doing just basic stuff I'd get a larger tablet, its just easier to get things where you want, ya know once you improve you hand-eye-tablet coordination.
 
I actually own 3 of this beauty tablets :) I started with an Intuos 2 A4 oversize and realized that its way to big for my needs. After that I bought a Graphire3 which I never really felt in love with the handling and so. My newest was the Intuos3 A6 which is pretty cool to paint :) Though my next will be the A5 wide which will perfectly fits to my space :)
