Better think twice before asking for support

I have a domain that I use to redirect to FB campaigns. It does geotargeting and tracking for me and it works like a charm. It uses a simple .htaccess and index.php.

Unfortunately, my server went down yesterday. Luckily, I noticed this immediately. I paused my 5 campaigns and sent a support ticket. I didn't know by then that it was about to get much worse.

Here's what happened:
17:50: My domain goes down.
18:00: I get a notification email from Free Websites Performance, Availability, Traffic Monitoring.
18:05: All my FB campaigns are paused and a support ticket is sent to the host. I explain that my site is completely unreachable and I give them a redirect link as an example.
19:15: I get another notification email from Free Websites Performance, Availability, Traffic Monitoring. My domain is back up again. I resume my campaigns.
00:30: I go to bed.
01:15: I receive this email from my host's support:
Hello,

Hmm, it looks like the issue with your site has to do with your code in
your index script. I renamed ".htaccess" to "htaccess" and "index.php" to
"index2.php" and your site showed your directory's files. So, it looks
like you need to check out where the issue is in the code. I took a breif
look at the code and it looks like you have a few "die" statements that
don't print any text which would probably explain why you only see a
blank screen. Looks like some debugging is in order!

If there is anything else I can do for you, please let me know! Be sure
to rename those files back to their original file names. I only kept them
that way to show you that it isn't Apache or something else on our end.

08:30: I wake up and check my email. I now see that my host screwed up my redirecting domain. All my FB traffic is now sent to a site index. My FB campaigns were running great and I lost at least $500 in those 7 hours. Anyways, I rename htaccess to .htaccess and index2.php to index.php and everything is running fine again. I also send an angry email to my host's support. There are more pleasant ways to start the day :(

Lesson learned today: Think twice about contacting support. Or if you have to: inform them when things are fixed again.
 


Or simply get a webhost which doesn't hire retards for supporting you. Stuff like this makes me feel good for paying what I pay to get top-notch service from PowerVPS.
