I had a root canal done this AM, and took the rest of the day off.

I'm not too messed up, but figured I'd milk it and work on my sites.

So, I get a call from my boss -- did I see the client's email, and was I working on it? WTF? I'm out sick, dude!

It's the lamest kind of work too - reconciling detail data to prove out the aggregate reported number that was in question. Writing SQL extracts, exporting into spreadsheets and replicating application logic manually - what fun!

So - I can't focus on the shiiite and keep jumping here for entertainment.

What's worse - since I don't have 10 WF posts, by the time any of you see this (going by previous moderation experience) I'll be long past this funk, so any commiseration or abuse will be too late to do any good.

Link your boss to make monies online and then later claim you were under the influence of vicodin and novacaine, and therefore not responsible for your action.

You need a break, cant you just tell him straight? hahahha

Not all employers are particularly bright. Had one call me during my vacation with my family... and this was a 2 week vacation that EVERYONE knew about that I was at, and I got a particular situation where I was emailed asking if I was working on a client's site or not. It's like, I'm sorry... thought I was on vacation?

If that wasn't bad enough, getting a response like "so that's a no?" tops it off.

FWIW, my boss is really a good guy, but we have that special joy of being specialized in securities trading apps, with primarily hedge funds as clients. Given the current market meltdowns, and a distinctly hollow sounding pipeline lately, keeping our existing clients as happy as possible is, like, really important.

That said, I'd still rather be working on my sites.

I guess the pity party's over .... thanks for coming, get home safely!

Seriously - thanks for some much needed cheer.

I do things like that the easy way.

When I am off sick, I do not answer mail or the phone. Please talk to my voicemail, thank you.

So if those are your clients you are here to get a backup plan for when you get laid off right? Better hurry.

Word.

I'm actually surprised that the job's not gone already. I didn't think I'd make it till Christmas. At the moment I'm good into Feb. March? That's another story. The client has plenty of work they'd like me to do, question is whether they decide they can afford it.

One good thing, this particular hedge fund is one of the biggest and most well established in the industry - of course, considering Lehman Bros. went down, anything's possible.

I know how you are feeling bud... I was in Dublin for a long weekend with the other half last month and consistantly, every hour I got an email regarding one of my client accounts, I swear the fuck that was the needle that broke my back - handed in my notice basically as soon as I got back.

People are so fucking annoying sometimes.

My advice, is get your sites generating a bit of recurring income and quit the mofo' I leave my job on the 6th Febuary and I cannnot wait!!
