Questions about filling out my first Affiliate contract

So I've registered my domain and I'm about to fill out the form to become an affiliate, but I have some questions.

1. I just registered my site so traffic is zero. They want to know how much traffic I'm getting. I've been told that I should lie and give a high number so they'll accept me. Is this true?

2. My domain is awesome, it's [keyword][keyword].com. On the signup form, they ask for my domain name. I've heard that it's best NOT to tell the affiliate where exactly their traffic is coming from because they could steal your methods and give them to bigger affiliates with more traffic = more sales for them and = fucking you over. Is this true? Can I not put my domain name on the form and still be accepted?

Can I be rejected if I don't have high enough traffic or don't list a keyword? My site is a review site specifically to provide information about different products within a niche, and then affiliate link the ones with the highest reviews to the sellers. It will be impossible to get traffic until I have content, and the affiliates make me feel like I can't be an affiliate until I have traffic, so it's like a catch 22.

Thanks.

You wont get approved without a website..

And I wouldn't go as far as to call it an 'affiliate contract'...more like 'affiliate registration'..

What network(s) are you applying to? If you don't have traffic, experience, or a decent enough explanation on how you are going to drive sales for them, they'll have no reason to approve you.

It sounds like you're into PPC? If so, fill out the form and put that you want to do PPC advertising. Then when they call you just tell them what you want to do and how you plan to drive traffic (ppc). I didn't actually have a website when I was applying to networks but I explained on the phone that I was signing up as a first step (doing the free stuff first), then completing the rest.

Good luck.

Yeah I guess it is more registration. Sorry I'm new to all this:(

It's with shareasale.

You have to talk to them on the phone? I thought it could all be done over email

I guess that varies network to network. Everyone I applied to called me to make sure I wasn't spamming. That may have been because I didn't have a website? I don't know. Either way it worked out fine.

Are you averse to speaking over the phone?

That is completely untrue.

Anytime I signup for an affiliate network I put "build sites around offers" in the URL box and I have yet to be declined from a network (I'm w/ 8-10)

Simply do that and then call them in the next day or 2 if they don't contact you first, and then they will say "oh you build landing pages around offers, cool" - and you say "yep"

Works like a charm

Sounds good, I will try that. Thanks!

WHAT IS WITH ALL THE NOOBS?

Soon I won't be a noob I hope

Not completely untrue but not completely accurate. I was given a problem each time but was eventually approved after speaking with someone and working it out. Most of the networks I emailed before applying and they said they don't approve people without a web site (Hydra still won't approve me - even though I have about 8 websites now - cause I initially applied without an active site).

100% accurate from my experience. I've yet to list a website and I had absolutely no trouble w/ Hydr or any other network you can think of

EDIT: If you say you drive traffic via PPC, this should work every time. If you say the main source of your traffic is SEO/web based, then I can see where you might have a problem.
