I just had to share this.

My roommate is single, and occasionally goes on Facebook to find girls he think would 'match' him. He found 'the perfect match' the other day, but unfortunately there are no connections between them (shared friends, classes, etc), so the chances of him meeting her are slim to none. He doesn't just want to send her a message, because that would be creepy and stalkerish, so essentially he's stuck pining over the 'perfect' girl he'll never meet.

Enter me. I made him a bet that I could arrange a meetup within a month. If I win, he has to cover my share of the rent next month. He accepted.

Here's what I've done: They both have several common interests, one of which is an activity that a club on campus caters to. Using Facebook ads, I setup an advertisement for that club, but tailored it so that it will target only her (and maybe one or two other people). The bait is set, so now we just have to wait and see if she shows up.

This may be the most creepy/pathetic thing I've ever done with Facebook ads, but meh, who cares.

You lose 100% of the chances you don't take. If your marketing ploy doesn't work, your roomie better send her a message and at least say hey. That's like being at a party and not wanting to talk to a girl because you don't already know her. Just don't have him tell her yea, I saw we had X, Y, Z, etc.. in common. That would kinda be creepy.

My girlfriend of 3.5 years and I split up two weeks ago. I'm sitting on the sidelines a bit.

So yeah, my roommate.

dude I seriously think it would have been easier to just manipulate this situation socially.. Spark up a conversation with her one day and then on your second meet-up just mention that she constantly reminds you of your roommate and they really should meet...

BAM! rent paid.

But still props for effort, creative use of social network advertisements, and the eventual forthcoming win.

EDIT:
yeah... your roommate, right.

just like i did the exact same thing for "my roommate"
