Alien - the first in the franchise is a gothic suspense masterpiece.
Silence of the Lambs - creeps me right the fuck out every time. Another classic.

same. I saw it as a kid and it scared the living shit out of me.

LOL! I slept in my mom's bed for almost two months after I watched it. It was my fault. My parents were watching it and I snuck down from my room and sat on the stairs where they couldn't see me. I think I crapped myself when her head spun around.... Horrifying to a young mind.

LOL that reminds me... Poltergeist! What a classic. I was like 5 when I saw it for the first time. I did the same thing as you, watched it when my parents didn't know (not sure where the hell they were?? but I vividly remember that cable box that used to be tan and you would run the trigger from 2 (what happened to 1?) to 99 although there were never anychannels after like 30 or so.) Anyways I turned it to channel 7 which was HBO and poltergiest was playing. I slept in my parents bed for like a month and that was when I started sleep walking too and slept walked out of the house...

Good stuff.

Paul W.S. Anderson is a good director when it comes to creating scary. He did the original "Resident Evil" movie and "Event Horizon." Both really can give you the heebie geebies in the dark.

Also, "High Tension" is a French movie that was re-released in the US. There's definitely some gore but the psychological scary factor is off the charts.

Ahhh good old Poltergeist! I have three older brothers and they thought it would be a great idea to let their little 7 year old sister(me) watch the movie when my parents were out. I was terrified and wouldn't go into my bedroom so I fell asleep on the couch. My brother turned on the TV to a channel that had the white fuzz and blasted it. I remember the room was pitch black. I started screaming at the top of my lungs and crying for my parents and my brothers just left me there pretending like they were sleeping. They didn't even come in to say it was a joke. I curled up by the front door with the lights on and waited what felt like hours for my parents to come home...

Some more recent ones Vacancy, 1408, War of the Worlds though this one is more of a sci-fi/thriller (alien invasions ftw!)

I woke up while sleep walking once half way out of my bedroom window, the cold must have awoken me. Good thing my bedroom is on the ground floor ;)
