Hi,

I am looking for a good router that can handly bit torrent easily, has great wireless performance and does great VPN.

I was looking at the WRT600N but it's discontinued! I thought it was a relatively new model.

Anyone has experience or suggestions in this field?

Linksys WRT54G with OpenWRT; from there, you can run anything you want.

I even had two of those, with DDWRT, but it would still buckle under heavy bittorent load. Seemed like a hardware bottle neeck

Then i heard that later versions had less memory for firmware updates?

How about something in the N range?

If you'll find D-Link DIR-655 with A4 hardware revision - you'll be really happy. And you'll [probably] don't need an *wrt firmware, default one is quite good (v.1.21).

if you get the Linksys router, make sure you get the WRT54G(L) or check the tomato/dd-wrt sites for a compatibility list as the latest wrt54g that sells for ~$50 isn't compatible afaik.

The tomato/dd-wrt firmware alone is enough to warrant buying a compatible router.

How old is that revision? What's different with the other (newer i guess) ones?

Most of the time, the bottleneck is from your ISP throttling torrent traffic, not from your router.

Thought about it but bittorrent grinds to a halt and everything else is just .... wheels turning in the mud. No error msg just keeps loading then 5 minutes later things reset to normal for a little while
