im doing AM full time for this summer and im having trouble arranging my time between AM, learning php/mysql and friends.

do you guys set a work time like 8am-2pm and work only that time? i catch myself working. then doing something else, then working, then something else and that usually takes all day. i need a more efficient way of arranging my time.

I've got the same problem,

I've been in web development for like 5-6 years and I still to this day cannot manage my time they way it should be.

I can never seem to find the balance between making money and having a social life.

Edit: But I have been known to just take a week of and chill with friends and family. sometimes mini vacations from work is needed.

Work in 30-45 mins block, do nothing BUT work during that time. (no multi-task) then take a short break.

so like 30 -45 min then a 5-10 min break?

That's what I do, except in 1 hour blocks, then take 30 minutes to check email, forums, respond to IMs, check stats etc and then it's back to work.

Line up things you want to do, rather than a time in which you want to accomplish something, that's how I get through the day.

I'm learning that the most important thing is to not multi task. Turn off AIM, email, your cell phone, and just do 1 single task at a time for 1-2 hours before taking a break.

rescuetime.com has been a big help in getting a handle on how I'm actually spending my time, and fixing it. That's the first step in taking control of your schedule, I think. Once you know how you're actually spending it, you can change it.

I work whenever I am awake (4:47 a.m. right now). No set times. Try to work till 3-4 each night and be up by 10-11.

I get some of my best work done at 4am when the wife and kids are asleep. I was my most productive last month when I had 2 weeks of insomnia and couldn't sleep, unfortunately this week I'm sleeping like a baby and dealing with the usual 9-5 crap of IMs and distractions.

Agreed, if I can truly dedicate myself to one task for a few hours each day, I get immense amounts of work done.

My biggest issue was having to wait for certain elements to be done (e.g. Layouts, coding). So I've begun mapping out certain needs weeks in advance and having them finished way in advance of when I actually need them.

When your in AM though your going to see some overlap if your campaigns are running 24/7, but its the name of the game.
