Things that you need to do/see in D.C.?

Since you're with your girl, pay close attention:

Jaleo.

Take her there.

Spanish-style Tapas resturaunt; there's one in DC by Chinatown (you'd take the Red Line metro and walk like two blocks, same area as the Spy Museum), and another one in Crystal City, VA (outside of DC, but still accessible by metro). The VA one in particular has an incredible wine display and selection.

The reason to take your girl: Tapas = small servings. Order a bunch and share --> feeding your girl over the table. Add a nice bottle of wine to the mix and it's a guaranteed good night. There's pretty much no way to mess that up. PM me if you decide to go and want to know what to order.

I agree with everyone who rec'd Georgetown and U Street. During the day they're great for walking around and shopping: G'town has some of the trendier shops/botiques. Rugby by Ralph Lauren is the shit for guys (trendy without being too gay), and your girl will like a place called Lush, which is like Bath and Body Works but more...hippy-ish? Adam's Morgan is a mix of the eclectic/worldly knick-knacks, plus there's a flea market on the weekends with artists of all mediums selling their stuff. Photography, paintings,etc...it's all good. At night, Hit up Old Glory or Third Edition in G'town and Local 16 on U Street. Adam's Morgan at night is cool in general, as there's no cover for all of the bars/lounges.

Also in Adam's Morgan, at Columbia Rd and 18th street, is this insanely popular Italian restaurant: Pasta Mia. I'm talking "line out the door" popular. I'm not a fan, but only because I have a friend who's mom and g'mom cook like that for free, but everyone else I've sent there love it. Get their early if you decide to go.

As for prowling for G'Town girls...don't waste your time. 50% of them wear sunglasses at night (signs of a dumbass), and the other 50% who's eyes you can see will blast you with the "fuck off" gaze. But they are the best-looking chicks this side of the Mississippi, so I hope your girl isn't the jealous type - your eyes will stray.

There's also no good reason not to catch a Nationals game, as the tickets are embarrassingly cheap. Same goes for the museums, which are, y'know, free.

Finally, get a copy of the City Paper once you get in to town: its free at pretty much every metro stop, and gives a nice list of stuff to do, in addition to recommending restaurants and what not.

Regardless of what you end up doing, it's DC: we can recommend a shit-ton of stuff, but exploring little places on your own will be just as rewarding. Just...don't carry around an obnoxiously-large camera or a fanny pack - you won't get laughed at, but we'll stare, which is just as bad.
 


Make sure you get a window seat flying in - you get a great view of some of the monuments from the air while flying up the Potomac
 
That's assuming you are flying into DCA (National) . If you are flying into Dulles, you won't see much.

WELL?! How'd it go? After all we invested to make this trip go well (lol), you guys better have had an amazing time!!!!
 
Alright so here was the itinerary:

We got in Thursday afternoon, checked into the hotel around 6 or so. The Westin Grand was amazing... they hooked us up with a top notch corner suite in the hotel. Very nice place and staff! We then went walked around the Georgetown shopping area, went into a few stores before going to dinner at Martin's Tavern. Nice place, really friendly bar tender. Then we went to another bar on M street after dinner which had a live band. It was ok, nothing special though.

Friday we got out of the hotel around noon (girls take forever to get ready haha) and then walked down to tidal basin (stopping at Potbelly's for lunch... forgot how much I love that place!) and went paddleboating for an hour then walked around and saw some of the memorials. Then we walked back to the hotel (stopping at potbelly's for icecream haha) to get ready to go to a Kenny Chesney concert that I surprised her with. She loves country... I only considered going because Kenny Chesney is one of my fraternity brothers. Yes, I know its a country concert but it was extremely entertaining... I've never seen so many girls absolutely WASTED before. One guy was carrying a girl on his back and she puked all over him (NASTY!). The concert was pretty good, scored me some big points. By the time we got back to the hotel with the post concert exit traffic it was pretty late so we didn't go out after that.

Saturday we went down to the national mall and went into the air and space museum and museum of natural science. Walked by the white house. Took a bunch of pictures. Then went back by the hotel and went shopping in the GT district before dinner @ Poablos? Right across the street from Martin's. Then we went to 3rd Edition Grill for drinks and dancing. Pretty cool place... didn't discover they had an upstairs until halfway through the night haha. We both got pretty drunk that night so it was fun walking home.

Sunday we checked out and drove back. Traffic was a bitch and a half but that was ok because we had an awesome few days.

Thanks again for the tips everyone! I loved my time in DC and would consider moving there at some point if the opportunity ever arose.
 
So you did the paddle boating?! Awesome. Sounds like your time there really rocked!
And, good score with the surprise concert :P
Don't think I've heard of "3rd Edition Grill" will have to check it out! Glad you all had a good time....
I think it's way cool how you really put some thought into it too *virtual back slap*
