I get these emails from time to time and i'm not sure if they are legit or if it's even necessary to complete the tasks mentioned within. I'm sure someone here knows so lemme know. Thanks

Dear XXXX,

Several months ago, we sent you a notice to review and update the contact information for your domain name(s). This is a follow-up to that email.

According to our records you are the ADMINISTRATIVE CONTACT on the following domain names registered at GoDaddy.com as of July 13, 2009:

domain1.com
domain2.com
etc

ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) requires all accredited registrars to ask their domain administrators/registrants to review domain name contact data annually, and make any changes necessary to ensure accuracy.

Under ICANN rules and the terms of your registration agreement, PROVIDING FALSE CONTACT INFORMATION CAN BE GROUNDS FOR DOMAIN NAME CANCELLATION (to review the ICANN policy, visit: WDRP FAQs).

If you have not yet done so, it is important that you review and update the contact information for your domain names as soon as possible. To review/update your contact data, simply:

1. Go to http://www.godaddy.com?isc=ICANN0709a
NOTE: If the link does not work, copy and paste the URL into your browser.

2. Click on the "ICANN Domain Confirmation" icon at the top of the page.

3. You will be taken to a landing page and asked to enter your Domain Information Key:
XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX

Yes, they send them annually. If your contact information isn't correct then you are supposed to correct it as per ICANN's rules, but you really don't have to do anything.

so i dont have to go to the site and enter the code? I just dont want them pulling some shit where because i didnt update it they steal my domains or something.

Is your Whois info accurate? I'll assume that it is by the fact you received their letter in the first place. If that's the case then you don't have to do anything.

I get them every year and I've never done anything because I know all my contact info is accurate and up to date. I've got some 2000 domains with them.

excellent input thank you! :)

^ +1, I've been wondering about those stupid emails too.

Since we're talking godaddy and suckage, anybody know of any renewal coupon codes?

what happens is if you don't go to the godaddy page, after a while they flag your domain. Any complaints, it'll go bad for you. Go to the fucking page, they've had their stupid link / code used, they're happy, we're all happy, icann fucks off.

I've been with them for years, and get those emails every year, sometimes twice a year depending on renewal cycles, etc. As long as your whois info is correct you've got nothing to worry about as that is all this process is meant to confirm.

However, if you would like to er on the side of caution, by all means, click the linky and enter the code.

I get those things from GD a few times a year, apparently as an ICANN thing. Since it involves ICANN, I wonder why the other registrars don't send them. They're not spam, but I treat them like spam and delete.
