Do I have a mac? no. But whatsup to those of you that do. I'm thinking about getting a mac book, and I'd like to hear from some people who've tried both. In all my life, I don't think I've ever talked to someone who had a mac and didn't love it. So I'm seeking out those people via this thread. Hit me with some wisdom.

I'm pretty set on the little guy. 13.3" with the 2.53 GHz processor and stick with the 4 GB RAM.

Misery loves company eh?
I been using this macbook of mine for bout a year and a half now... the only peice of wisdom I can think of is redirecting you to this thread we had about 3 months ago where people posted images of their own macs. show off your macs - WickedFired - Affiliate Marketing Forum - Internet Marketing Webmaster SEO Forum

Try it yourself before you buy it. It's more intuitive and less annoying for some people, less intuitive and more annoying for others. If you don't like OSX then you just wasted a lot of money compared to, say, a ThinkPad. Bootcamp sucks too due to stupid little things in the Windows drivers like only being able to use that 1.3 megapixel webcam at 640x480.

Vmware - OSx86

And while you're messing around in VMware give Win7 a go too. Anyhow, you won't be able to install from a system restore CD, you'll need a full retail copy, so ask your buddies who recently went from 10.4 -> 10.5 to borrow their DVD.

Or just hunt around for an already set up VMware image from the usual piratical bays.

The first thing that struck me is that just about anything I'd expect to be freeware is $5-20 shareware on the mac. Resolution changer for the second monitor so you don't need to fuck with the system preferences? $5. Non-Tweetdeck twitter client? $5-20. Image viewer that's not half as good as IrfanView? $10.

So rather than googling just check Software Updates - Mac OS X - Freeware - VersionTracker when looking for a quick app that does whatever.

Oh, and install Quicksilver and Growl.

FWIW I use OSX and Linux laptops daily at work, and a Windows 7 desktop machine at home.

Hello friend,

I hear once buy Apple product become slave of Steve Jobs.

Good luck bro

Awesome

- On another note,

I have a 13.3" unibody macbook, and really like it...

the keyboard flows really well, OSX is solid, trackpad with expose is 10x better then any HP piece of shit trackpad - I actually prefer my macbook trackpad over a mouse because of how fast you can get around. and 5 hour battery is fucking legit, head to the apple store and get a second one for those long ass flights.

conclusion: Get it and you will really enjoy it, solid laptop...

Edit: buy it refurbished from apple.com, not one scratch, ding or speck of dust when i got it - absolutely flawless and it was $250 cheaper..

I just picked up a 13" mac book pro (4gb ram) the other week. I love the thing.. multi touch increases productivity a lot.. it's great for traveling and really portable.. amazing battery life.

GET IT

My wife hated me for about two weeks when her pc broke, and I replaced it with a Mac. Now, she loves it.

There is all sorts of freeware for the mac. Just don't go to the windows places looking for mac software. Versiontracker is a good spot to look for mac software.

13.3" macbook pro, 4gb ram, 128gb sdd...

the only thing bad i can think of is...no can't think of one...

I was once forced to use a Macintosh for a media production class in college (3 years ago), and it froze/crash more times in one sitting than my PC crashes all year. They were brand new out of the box and this was across a dozen different Macintosh machines. Pieces of shit.

Since I've owned my macbook, the bad things I can think of (or annoyances per se) are:

When they came out with the unibody macbook : they killed off the firewire port, and didn't even add a third USB port to compensate for it's removal (boo)
When they created the 13" macbook pro: they killed off the express port in both the 13" and the 15" (Which previously had one) forcing you to buy the 17" if you want the express port (perhaps for eSATA)... boooo

and a number of other little stupid things they did since then. My white early 2008 macbook is the last (non-pro) macbook that came with a firewire port. And trust me it makes a hell of a difference with external harddrives over USB 2.0.

But least they FINALLY put a media slot in the damn thing. (coincidentally after my model of course lol)

Thanks for having opinions, fellas.

I think that since I've used windows my whole life, It would definitely take a while to accommodate myself to another OS. So I guess I'll try it out. Some family members have macbooks, so I'll just use theirs.

Yea, Macs are pretty good, I've used one for 2 years and it does me fine. Bought it for graphic type stuff originally. Pretty stable etc etc.

If you're doing SEO though and use a lot of link/keyword tools etc, then fuck it, just stay on windows, as most of these marketing type apps are windows only. Yea, you can run parallels desktop and run windows in a VM, but whats the fucking point of that? You're just being a dick buying an overpriced windows machine.

In short, if moneys no object I'd buy a Mac, but don't start preaching how they 'just work' and that PC's suck etc, cos that would make you a cock nose.

Also, don't write linux off.

do it - you won't regret it

Is your name CK or is that just your username? Cuz that's my name and never in my whole life have I come across another CK.

And @pickldegg: The whole software compatibility thing is really annoying and that makes the choice harder. It sounds like mac users have to pay for software that would be free for a PC.

If you are a PC user your whole life and like to actually have control and freedom over your computer then get ready to bang your head against the fargin wall.

Macs are perfect for fucktards, moms, girlfriends, grandmas and morons who need everything locked down so they can't fuck anything up.

Ahem... I'm a webdeveloper and professional photographer.

This going to turn into another one of those stupod PC vs Mac rants, just as stupid as the Canon vs Nikon, PPC vs SEO, yada yada yada. I guess in the end, we're just circle jerking.

I didn't say it was only for fucktards just perfect for them.

If all you're ever known is a MAC then you great. If you're used a PC you're whole life then try a MAC it feels incredibly limiting in terms of available hardware, software and overall freedom to tweak and customize the system to fit your needs. With a Mac it's done Apple's way or it isn't done. You don't like the way they do it, tough shit.

I don't define myself by my computer like Mac people seem to. It's just a tool to get shit done. I have many friends who are Mactards. They couldn't change out a hardware component to save their life. They run back and forth to the Apple store. They just don't have any fucking brains when it comes to the technical side of computers.

There is no right or wrong just personal preference. It's the Mac cultish corporate identity that makes them so unlikeable as a company.
