so i'll be going to SF to catch the outside lands festival at the end of the month. After that i will head to LA by bus.

I am going to rely on public transportation. what's the must see/must do in LA?

and any traveling tips? This will only be the second time i go to the west coast.

Venice beach is a trippy place to see. Universal Studios is interesting, Getty Museum is nice if you're into museums.

Venice on Sunday = Drumcircle.. Very cool.
China Town is a fun place to check out.. The little underground markets are nice.. All the bootlegs, illegal weapons and knockoffs you could ever want.. Just ask for the illegal shit.. haha.
Could hit up Universal Studios in the Wood, Disneyland / Magic Mtn not too far away..
La Brea tar pits were cool, haven't been since I was a kid.. But interesting nonetheless.
I'll think of more :P

If you like Greco Roman art, hit up the Getty Villa. The LACMA also has a badass fine art collection.

Nightlife: Standard Rooftop Bar Downtown. Chateau Marmont if you want to spit game and models and wannabe actresses.

If you like to spend money on clothes hit up Melrose Ave.

My favorite thing to do when I lived there was smoke a bowl and drive up and down Mulholland at night.

Check out LAWeekly to see what plays are going on that weekend. Top notch shows for cheap at the 99 seat theaters in Silverlake and the Valley.

Santa Monica/Venice for hipster beach environment. Hermosa/Redondo or Manhattan Beach for the yuppie beach scene.

My favorite place to eat was the Village Idiot on Melrose.

Make sure you check out all the fake people. Beverly Hills, Hollywood, etc. Rodeo Drive.

lol we have enough of those back in nyc

SF to LA is for pussies. I went coast-2-coast, NY to LA by bus several times, and have napped with 75 strangers in the middle of Kansas at 3 am.

You will be "landing" at the Greyhound Bus terminal @ 7th Street and Alameda, downtown LA. Don't miss el Pueblo de los Angeles, across from Union Station, a mile or so uptown, my favorite part of the city. It's a monument/national park and has a beautiful and authetico museum, the Sepulveda House on Olvera Street.

Union Station is done up in Deco/Moorish, and an outstanding bit of architecture built as a New Deal project.

There's so much to see and do in LA. If you want to see the sign, it's visible from afar on Hollywood Boulevard, but you can't get too close unless you take the car or hike up Mount Lee. There's also the Griffith Park observatory, and the Tar Pits Museum on Wilshire Boulevard.

I fuckin LOVE the DECO architecture in LA man.

downtown on saturday if you wanna feel lonely.

any freeway at 8am if you hate loneliness.

check out santa barbara if you got some time.

a rental car is HIGHLY recommended in LA and they are pretty cheap too. lots of good deals online.

There's public transportation in LA? Just kidding = kind of.

You do know we aren't famous here for public transportation??

Hollywood Bowl
Pantages Theater
Santa Monica Pier
Getty Museum (getty.edu)
Huntington Library (in Pasadena - one of my favorites) and go to the Arboretum and Descanso Gardens while you're over there (huntington.org, arboretum.org, descansogardens.org)
La Brea Tarpits (tarpits.org)
Petersen Automotive Museum (petersen.org)
MOCA (moca.org)

Enough? If that's too much culture, hit the clubs on Sunset on a Friday or Saturday night and see where famous bands like The Doors first launched.

Really, there's not much to see in Beverly Hills.
