... can I get out of it? I would feel bad because he was a nice guy and I technically did deserve the ticket. Technically couldve gotten no front license plate, no inspection, and obstruction of view for having my radar detector and GPS on the windshield. He left me off with just the no front license plate so I'm very thankful for that. However, I'm wondering if he purposely messed up the address (used my old home address which is on my drivers license, but I have the updated address sticker on the DL and my registration and insurance show the new address) and the date (he said tomorrow instead of today) so I could fight the ticket.

Thoughts?

I had a ticket (for underage drinking so it was a *few* years ago) with the wrong date on it and I tried to get it dismissed.

Didn't fly.

You could fight the ticket. If you wanted to face the cop in court and ask him why he put the wrong date and address. Then, ask the court to dismiss the case based on the officer's incompetence.

Ask questions like:
What was I wearing?
What was the weather like?
And dont let him use the ticket as a guide. If he looks at the ticket, say "objection" and base it on independant recollection. The cop MUST be able to remember giving you the ticket.

What I do is, get a haircut (or dye it) and wear glasses to court. Then ask the cop if I look the same. Then I pull out a dated pic of me on the date of the ticket, and win the case.

I am a licensed private investigator who HATES cops. They are scum, and I love degrading them in front of their peers.

I just got a goddamn fucking shit fucking balls ticket for an expired registration-$140 bones.

Most courts are pretty flexible with their court dates. You can try to find out the cop's off days or vacation time. You can do this by calling the police station and try to setup a meeting with the cop. (You arent really going to meet with him) Then ask what days he is available. Check and see if there are court dates on the days he isnt available to talk to you , and reschedule the date for one of those days.

That way, you force him to have to come to court on his day off. The cop must be present or you get your tickeet thrown out. If he does show, at least you got to ruin his day.

we have attorneys in Tampa who will make it go away for only $100. all they do is set court date and keep postponing until the officer doesn't show. once he doesn't show they go through with the case and have it dismissed cause the officer didn't show.

I once got a speeding ticket in January and the cop wrote the date with the wrong year (he wrote the previous year). It was dismissed in court.

Good luck, bro.

How much is the ticket?

I mean, you admit to being in the wrong, the copper was being nice, why not fucking pay the ticket and have it over with, including a clear conscience?

I got a ticket for the same thing about 2 months ago. Not only did I get towed, but I also go $340 worth of tickets. Went to court last week and only had to pay $160, but don't forget the tow.

What's worse is that I'm pretty sure I got fucked by the long dick of the law, only because I refused a search...

That's what I plan on doing, but for him to make 2 mistakes on a ticket seems almost as though he did it on purpose, no?

On the handful of tickets I've had, I've always pled not guilty when mailing it in, requesting an officer's deposition.
Only once has an officer ever actually filled out a deposition and sent it to me. When they don't, it is automatically dismissed in court.
The one time I did receive a depostion, the make of my car on it was wrong (he wrote "Saab" instead of "Subaru"). In that case, I agreed to plea guilty to a lesser fine and no points on my license.

With not one but 2 glaring errors on your ticket you will, at the very least, be able to decrease your fine a ton...if not get the ticket dismissed altogether. It shouldn't get far enough to actually be facing the cop in court. Just my unprofessional opinion.

I just thought of something, how am I supposed to prove that the date of the ticket is wrong?

if you can show that you were somewhere else on the date the ticket says. show you were at work or whatever on that date and time

My kid recently got a $165 ticket for loud exhaust from the city cop. He pulled him over and stated he could hear him >75 feet as he was going over an overpass. The thing is, the city limits end at the road he was on. I don't know how this would play out if he fights it.

Is that not just a $10-20 fix it ticket where you live? Karma can be a bitch, the guy may have been nice enough to only let you off with this- this happened to me before in a fast car going very fast- I wouldn't have dared piss the guy off by trying to get out of paying $10.

I promise you the cop didn't 'purposely' mess that up, however you don't know if 2 hours earlier he got shot at or found out his wife has breast cancer. All I'm saying is I routinely write the wrong year (last year) after Jan 1 until about May.

If it's cheap just pay it.

I dunno how it works where you are but here in my province, there are clearly designated areas on the ticket that are shaded. At the bottom it says "shaded areas are not part of the offence charged".

This means that anything written in the shaded areas, correct or incorrect, is irrelevant and disputing that won't stand in court.

I would suggest you just contest the ticket anyway, since the officer isn't going to show up to defend it probably 50% of the time.

I got a ticket a couple of years ago in New York. The cops printer thing was fucked up (#6 didn't work), so the license number was wrong. I tried to fight it through the mail and the response was "We don't know, nor care what you were driving. It was you so pay up."

I guess that means I have a warrant somewhere in New York...
