I guess it's only in the movies where they will incapacitate someone by shooting them in the shoulder or the leg once.

Seriously though, this is the most retarded display of handling a crisis ever. The guy was obviously crazy.
They shot the shit of out him while he was in mid sentance. He wasn't even moving and all of a sudden a blaze of bullets light him up. Shoot first ask questions later. What type of ass backwards country do we live in? He wasn't even BRANDISHING a weapon, he just claimed he had one. These guys are fucking tools sorry.

The guy got what he ordered. You can't say to a guy who's pointing a gun at you that you are going to kill him with a gun. You must be a complete moron if you don't understand that after that it doesn't matter if you really have the gun or not.
You said out loud that you intend to kill him with a gun you have. The police are going to act like it. If you make sudden moves as you could be reaching for your gun, you are going to get shot. Simple.
I wonder how many of these little rebellious tree huggers here would wait and see whether the guy really have a gun. Yea, it would suck to lie in your own blood with a bullet in your head and say "yup, he really had the gun"...

I understand many people's distrust of the law. The cops in my part of town spend way to much time harassing speeders and not enough time getting the thugs out of the wal-mart parking lot that pull on the ladies' clothes as they walk by.
Since I struggle w/ anger towards cops, I just remember that they are just as much of an a-hole as I am sometimes. I also try to remember that nobody ever calls them like "Hey officer ___, we're having an oyster roast and thought you might want to come over." No... on every call they are dealing with the stupidest, meanest people our country has to offer.
There is no excuse for this guy that got shot. Anyone who enables those like this guy or defends him, is part of the problem there are so many people acting like that. We are building a nation with little consequence for our actions.
This guy threatened a pile of cops that he would shoot them. We're not talking about him threatening his crack-head neighbor who he caught stealing his bike. - we're talking about a collection of people trained to protect the masses even if it comes at the price of one life.

I don't live in US or even defend US police, but if you really say that those guys are fucked up, you should check happy happy joy joy places like Russia, China and all the little countries where economy isn't doing so great. Watch it again. At the end they play it in slow motion and you can clearly here the police call out that they saw a gun. The fact that he did not have one is irrelevant. He said he did and he said he was going to use it. The fact that he might be crazy is irrelevant as well. Are police supposed to risk getting shot because someone might be crazy... That is dumb.
The guy said he had a gun and he was going to shoot. He had something in his hand. He deserved to get riddled with bullets.
Except the fact that he said he had a weapon and even told them how many bullets he had, and how he was going to shoot the dog and the police?

I want to know why ANYONE would think someone who is a police officer should have to risk their life in a situation like that with a freaked out idiot who SAYS he is going to shoot and kill them. He had no leverage, no bargaining position, it was give up or go in the ground. It was bad enough the dog got shot, but if a cop would have been wounded or killed in that situation that would have been 100x worse.
Like how? Shooting him in the leg and then see if he shoots back? Bullet in the head is just more efficient for everybody. No more tax payer's money for this guy.
This is not a fact, but if I remember correctly police usually shoots to legs when the suspect is running away. If suspect threatens officers and displays intend to kill officers, they don't aim for legs... If somebody knows the procedure better, feel free to correct.
Police doesn't carry those around for fun. Both are mainly used in a riot situation. Bean bag guns are also slow compared to normal handguns. Also in that situation police was trying to convince him to give up, but he didn't listen.
Yea, they could have shot him in the leg or shot him with rubber bullets or throw a stick. In the end, this is how the world works. It's just common sense that if you threat to kill someone with a gun, he will not think twice to do the necessary thing to avoid that. He could have been taken down in non-lethal way if he didn't had threatened to kill those cops.
That should be how the world works, you fuck with the police, they tell you to stop, you don't stop, the police shoot you in the face.
What is the point of that? He clearly made his intent known and that he wanted to kill police officers. It is not worth the risk trying to subdue him when he has clearly demonstrated a desire, willingness and potential ability to kill police officers.
He was a direct threat to their lives.
