What are you thankful for?

Among other things, I'm thankful for being in this business. More so after reading stories like this one about a girl who graduated from college with a $100,000 education and can't find a job. She's an Ivy league valedictorian living at home again, working part-time in a family restaurant as a hostess. It's so pathetic!

I'm thankful that I own a paid up house, have a paid up car, live in a free country and can pretty much do as I please.

What a bullshit story that was. If she had a modicum of initiative I'm sure she could figure something out, but somehow I don't think that the problem.

Sounds like she went straight from high school into uni, and never actually lived. Now she's doing the things kids do in the years between schools: boyfriends, travel, drinking, etc.

Meanwhile her parents keep asking her "do you know what's next?", "what do you think you will do?" and her brother and sister give her a hard time. Sounds like a real supportive family. I'd tell them to fuck off. I mean, they put the pictures of their daughter meeting the Dali Lama away in the closet. If they were really proud of their daughter wouldn't that sort of thing stay out on display in the house? Dad is partner in an accounting firm so I'm sure he knows a few business owners and could pull a few strings if he wanted to.

Nope, the whole story stinks. Fucked up family from fucked up middle America. A daughter that is more hippy than Wall St. who can't take initiative to do something more... but I don't think that's what she wants anyway. I'm sure with a 5 page article in the Washington Post she'll have no shortage of job offers now. It would be interesting to revisit her 6 months down the road to see if she went on the yoga sabbatical or took some 40k a year cubicle job somewhere just to be away from her parents.

Blech.

What am I thankful for? Thankful to be alive at the moment. Thankful for a supportive girlfriend. If some of the projects I am working on come to fruition I'm sure I'll be thankful for a lot more then.

WickedFire, my parents and the girl that dumped me 2 years back. A lot things changed for me since then.

The fact that my pregnant wife hasn't yet stabbed me to death for making endless "using breast milk in your coffee" jokes. I wish I could stop, but the tourettes has me it in its grip.

LOL. It might not be to bad in coffee! I would roll over and grab a little suckle in the middle of the night. It wasn't too bad

BTW. Early congrats!

wow that article sucked. that chick isnt even applying for jobs anymore and wants to whine that in like six months since graduation she has applied to 40 whole jobs and hasnt gotten a single one! if i didnt have a job I would be applying to 10 a day every day till I got one. america has gotten lazy and complacent.
