On a serious note, it is hard ...no 2 ways about it. Since I came from the International side of the Adult space, I am a big believer of trying to monetize globally. There are many opportunities if done correctly. You are limiting yourself by just focusing on the US/English speaking market.

You don't want to get into adult it's a dying niche and if you expect to earn $xxx,xxx/month you better start putting in ridiculous amounts of work.

So you pretty much have to have a huge site doing 100k+ uniques/day to make anything decent.
Your time is better spent on pretty much any OTHER niche.

Adult is definitely different than mainstream in a lot of ways.
Grosses are usually much smaller than you will be used to, but on the other hand nets will be much better.
Much more relationship based and can seemingly have more/less transparency at the same time.
There is a lot more coopetition in adult which helps to provide virtual economy of scale.
There are a few people who media buy/arb as affiliates, but VERY few.
Much more common is for people to either be publishers of some kind and/or have some involvement/inhouse with the sponsors they are promoting.
While I'm not going to mention any specific traffic brokers/networks in the post I will say that in my experience most people who find success buying traffic are using it as feeder/trade traffic as opposed to direct monetization.
Most of the easily discovered ways/places to buy traffic are available for a reason - usually that nobody can monetize it for that rate.
It's pretty common to see people get their heads handed to them consistently on traffic buys.
GFY is not exactly like Warrior Forum but if you have that in mind it provides the right degree of skepticism for you.
When it comes to how to best get into adult you probably need to provide more information.

SEM? - Make sure to brush up on the 'special' fun/rules that apply. For instance a

SEO? - Link dev is much harder cold in this space, and buying opportunities have a HUGE variance (much less rational market)

Moving on, adult is about volume. Traffic doesn't flow on that side of the web the same way it does for most webmasters. There's a lot to learn about traffic trading and buying. I've had the most success in adult from organic search traffic, but adult SEO also doesn't work the same way as other SEO does. Tricks that don't work anymore on the family-friendly side of the web still work for adult... but at the same time, put the wrong word in your domain and you'll have one hell of a time ranking for anything.
Also, image search drives a lot of organic traffic in adult. If you want to learn, I'd recommend reading the forums at GFY and GreenGuyAndJim.

If you're any good with internet research, you can easily find the footprints of their sites by starting with their usernames. Most of the sites are crap, but like I said, it's about volume. These guys are converting like 1:3000, and those are the SUCCESSFUL guys. I'd stay away from TGP/MGP and maybe start with a blog. My first adult blog was doing $600/mo at its peak, not a huge amount but it cost me nothing and all the traffic was organic.

If you go into adult thinking you're a big swinging dick cause you turn a profit on adwords or media buys, you WILL lose your money. For a beginner with no experience or connections, I would advise you to not even think about buying traffic, because the shit thats for sale is garbage.
I have been out of adult for almost 2 years now, but it provided my entire income and that of my business partner / employees for over 6 years before that. I was a top 10 affiliate for one of the biggest affiliate programs. Almost all of that income came as a result of networking and dealmaking.
Back when I started, my average conversion rate was around 1/200. Then 1/300, 1/700, 1/1100, 1/2000. Thats when I got out. Sure, it was almost all profit, but the checks kept getting smaller.
Start a blog if you want, write a new post every day for a few months and you'll make some beer money. But in the environment we're currently in, your time will be better spent in mainstream.
This is true. It is not a good time to get into adult. There are much more opportunities in mainstream.
If you are wondering, no, you will not create a popular pay site. And no the margins are nowhere near as good as in mainstream.
And yes the ratios are approaching 1:10,000 on some types of traffic. If you are used to 1:10 on quality traffic you can expect 1:150 on similar types of quality traffic in Adult.
