WAYNESVILLE, N.C.: A 22-year-old North Carolina woman who put her toddler in boiling water and burned his foot with a cigarette has been sentenced to prison.
Media outlets reported today that Tabitha Rich pleaded guilty to two felony counts of inflicting serious injury to her then-33-month-old son. She received a 25- to 39-month sentence on each, to run consecutively.
Prosecutors said Rich put her son in a pan of boiling water in October 2008 as punishment because he was constipated. He was treated for third-degree burns on his bottom. He had a cigarette burn on his left foot and other injuries.

Rich was ordered to have no contact with her son and to receive parenting training.

Better yet send her to a mental institute. Who the fuck punishes a child for being constipated?

I seriously hope they aren't considering giving her back the kid after she finishes her time.
 
They gave that woman a slap on the wrist! WTF? 4-5 years? That is all?

Also parental training? I would say better sterilization is in order.

If it was a guy, not only would be have 4x the sentence, but he would also be a sex offender. And if he was a black guy he would probably also get an account of attempted homicide thrown in there.

This is why you have fucked up adults, because they were once fucked up children who were raised by fucked up adults.

There is a difference between discipline, even strict discipline, and cruelty/abuse.

I was trying to stay out of this thread cause I can't stand crap like this. REally. It keeps me depressed for days.

So I'm not really going to read that news story but I couldn't help but notice Roundabouts post. What does liberal have to do with anything? If anything we always get accused of NOT disciplining our kids enough because of the stance that many liberals (and non liberals alike as I really don't see what politics have to do with it) of not hitting kids at all. (which is show the obvious ignorance of that statement as the word "discipline" means to teach and should have nothing to do with hitting)

Hitting or any other physical punishment to a child is barbaric plain and simple. The quicker we learn to condition ourselves the the better our society will be. I was raised in a physical punishment environment (and yes I turned out fine I hate that freaking lame ass argument for hitting) and I realized there was no reason to hit children so I stopped that conditioning and my children are turning out just fine. They behave very well in public (actually better then the kids that get smacked and you should see the look on my son's face when some kid gets walloped right in front off us. Utter horror.)...and I've now totally forgotten the point of this ramble except USE YOUR BRAINS AND FIGURE OUT ANOTHER WAY TO DISCIPLINE YOUR KIDS.

edit: btw, I just realized this looks like this rant was aimed at Roundabout, It's not. His post just is what brought me into the thread.
