Avatar and District 9 Made Me Sick

Definitely worth it seeing it in 3D. I saw it on both regular and an IMAX screen and its worth the extra money for IMAX. Avatar has raised the bar.

Avatar = a jazzed up, twice as long adaptation of Pocahontas.

Worth seeing for the effects however.

There's enough bullshit action/sci-fi/adventure movies with no serious point/theme/moral right? So why can't we have a few with some deeper points?

If many people watching it don't get the underlying moral of the story that's ok. It's like how many modern day animated movies have jokes for kids and jokes for adults in it. The kids don't usually get the adult jokes and the adults could care less about the kid jokes but everyone often enjoys the animated film anyway.

District 9 was the most overrated piece of shit I've seen in a long time. I got the apartheid references immediately and that's great but the movie itself just sucked. My kids didn't like it either.

Avatar was better only because of the technology. The movie was so fucking corny, but the kids loved it so whatever. They assumed the comparison was to Iraq or Afghanistan so at least they knew there was a social message, but it was hidden behind such a tired, recycled script that I was more annoyed than enlightened to say the least.

The real winner last weekend (we watched all 3) was the copy of Law Abiding Citizen that I downloaded. Unanimous favorite, unique script and chock-full of awesomeness with a powerful social message to boot.

I really liked both those, but thanks for turning me onto L-A-C just watched the preview and cant wait for the torrent to finish :D

Just watched District 9 this week.

For me, it was close, but no cigar. There were a few moments when I really started to sympathize with the aliens, but the overall idiocy within the movie shattered those moments.

A couple of talented scifi writers (I know a few) could have touched up some of the loose ends and lameness and made the movie 5x better.

That said, if there's a sequel, I'll watch.
