For each of my sprint phones I received a letter in the mail saying
Now this is how ninja sprint is... They send you a letter DATED December 31, 2009 and it arrives the day it takes effect (Jan 10 -2010).. They're mail room must use microsoft software....

"This notice is to inform you of a change to our Account Spending Limit (ASL) program. Beginning January 10,2010, a fee of $4.99 per month per account will be charged to accounts in the ASL program unless enrolled in automatic payments. Your Sprint Account is currently part of our ASL program, which means you have a predetermined maximum monthly spending amount and your account will be subject to the new fee unless you are enrolled in monthly recurring automatic payments. If you wish to enroll in automatic payments, you can either enroll through sprint.com/myaccount, which is the quickest and easiest way if you have Internet access, or fill out the enclosed enrollment form and fax or mail to the address listed on the form. Until you receive confirmation that your enrollment request has been successfully processed, please continue to pay your bill as you have in the past.

The decision to place you on the Sprint ASL program was made at the time you originally applied for service with Sprint and was based, in whole or in part, on a review of your credit history as reported by various consumer reporting agencies. Please note that Sprint has not made any new credit inquiries or re-reviewed your credit history in connection with this program. This letter is simply to inform you of the change to the program. Sprint continuously reviews accounts, and upgrades customers out of the ASL program after 18 months of service and responsible payment history.

For information about the Sprint ASL program, please contact Customare Care in a way that's convenient for you."

I hate getting billed for random bullshit, so naturally i instantly call them up and start bitching..

In talking to[pres *2 on phone] Trisha (Agent ID 102706) she informed me that it had nothing to do with my credit, it was because I got my phone in march 09 and did not have 18 months credit history with them.

I then went in to talk to my local sprint represenitive (Angela M Abrao - Angelica.Abrao@sprint.com) and she tells me that she has had dozens of people come in complaining about the random new charge. As a good rep she agrees with me and says sorry then giving me the customer service phone number.

I then called the customer service number (1-888-211-4727) and wait on hold for 25 minutes.. When I get a rep (Agent Id ZZ71847) she tells me to wait on hold. (15 minutes on hold with no hold music)[ i put it on speaker and ran around wickedfire.com ] After that she comes back and says, thank you for patiently holding please let me transfer you to our department... click she hangs up on me.

If you know of anyone thinking about getting a new cell phone, it is my opinion that you AVOID SPRINT.

I'm prettty sure you can void your contract when changes like this happen. Try asking for a couple levels up the supervisor chain and ask them whether the change affects you - when they agree, tell them it is a "material change" and you want to cancel the contract with no penalty because of it.

Yeah fuck sprint. They try to charge me $1.81 every month after I've cancelled my account with them. I called them and they didn't even know why, couldn't figure out why and couldn't stop it. Fucking idiots. I called my credit card and told them to deny all sprint charges but now they probably think I owe them like $30 but have no way of telling me why...wtf.

This is golden information, I just cancelled all of my phones.

Ask to get transfered to "Account Management" then tell them "I want to cancel my account because the account spending limit is a material change and my local sprint represenitive told me I could cancel my account without the fee"..

Cancelled all my lines!

:banana_sml: Woot /fuck sprint

The new fee is shit - doesn't affect me, and I love Sprint, but it's terrible PR & a terrible practice. They should just drop this fee - I'm really not sure of the benefit to Sprint for doing this.

As for my account, Sprint gave me a $50 credit 2 months after I bought my phone because the price dropped & I asked nicely. I also get a 22% discount (total bill, not just base voice plan) and unlimited everything except landline/800 # calls.

Verizon charges phantom $1.99 data fees for data that isn't actually used, which got so bad that the FCC launched an inquiry into it - FCC Asks Verizon About That $1.99 Mystery Data Fee - 'Dear sirs, might we inquire about the millions pilfered via skulldruggery?' - dslreports.com . It happens to my family every 3 or 4 months, and it's annoying as hell.

Cell phone companies need to step it up & stop pissing off companies.

Bullshit. I had two lines, for the full two year contract. They then put me on month to month, as I refused to renew. I've since canceled both lines, about 4 months ago. I got the same letter in the mail, and I got a bill for a few more months' service... that I didn't have.

I dunno, i got all of mine cancelled, and tommorow i'm going to get those boost mobile (which is a sister company of sprint - from my understanding) at $50/month unlimited everything and no contract.

Or you could go even cheaper @ $45 a month unlimited everything (including data) from the new Walmart plans... Runs on the Verizon network. I heard they're decent, though I can't speak from experience, as I don't have/want a cell phone. I find life is a little more peaceful when people can only reach me when I'm at the computer (skype..).
