Held for years and released without charge. Is that the American way? Do you really think if these people were all terrorists they would just be released without charge? They had nothing on them, yet they lost years of their lives rotting in an American concentration camp.

We all know about those incidents. Here's the difference. When you have a million or so individuals (US Forces or otherwise), there are going to be those who do things they should not do. That's a fact, and it always will be. You'll never find a large number of individuals who are all saints.
When it happens in the US, the people who did so are punished. In China, innocent citizens are punished and those that carry out the torture are rewarded.
And yes, there is a huge difference between torturing a citizen and a terrorist.
For example, should average joe on the street be punished for speaking out against his government? Absolutely not.
Now, let's say you haveAchmed, who was just seen trying to blow up some school kids, or a building, a bus, or carrying the materials needed to do so, etc... I don't care what they do to him, torture away, and get a good shot in there for me.

The orders to torture these guys came from the president and his cronies. It's been proven over and over again that these weren't a few "bad apples". Even the head CIA interrogator stated the orders to torture came from the top.
The people that were involved in the Bagram case (read the link) were almost all acquitted or given ridiculously light punishment for what they did, which was murder at least two people.
And, no, the majority of these people held in these Iraq and Afghan prisons aren't terrorists, but regular Joes going about their business. It just so happens that there is an aggressive occupying force that (gasp) doesn't share the same ideology as well as religious and tribal infighting amongst their own people. You have Iraqis turning in fellow Iraqis claiming the other is a terrorist so they can pick up a cash reward. You have Afghans being held indefinitely on suspicions.
As for Gitmo, you must have missed the part about 420 prisoners being released without charge... meaning they were innocent by American legal standards. IE not terrorists.
And, as a bonus if you can find it, watch the BBC4 documentary Torture Inc. about torture and abuse in the American prison system, inside America. Lots of good naked cattle prod action in there. Sweet American on American torturing action for you to get you jollies to. I mean, it must be OK to torture them, because they're criminals, right?

Just because we release prisoners, that does NOT mean they are not terrorist. And we did release them. The Chinese wouldn't have been so kind.
Like I said, sure it goes on in America, no large population will be 100% saints. It's the overall way things are handled that you need to look at. Anyone with half a brain can see that. That is, unless it's clouded in anti American bias.
And for the record I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with torturing terrorists if it is in fact to gather info against future attacks.
If someone came on my lawn and threatened my family I'd shoot them dead, without hesitation. If I restrained them, and they knew another group was coming for my house next, you can be sure I'd do anything to get that information from them. American soil and American citizens should get the same protection.
