buy > rent, but I like the house option for privacy and noise issues, I make a lot of noise when I practice my music

Depends on where you are in the world and where you are in life. If you are living in someplace like NYC good luck on the house. However if you are in the burbs or a smaller town I would say house ftw.

If you're younger you can party without disturbing the guy downstairs and if you are older you will definitely appreciate not sharing a wall with some gold-digger with 18 kids screaming at all hours of the night/day.

I like the convenience of renting an apartment. Assuming your landlord(s) does his/her/their job (if he/she/they doesn't/don't then it can really suck) and you rent in a halfway decent place.

I don't want to worry about shoveling snow, cutting the lawn. It's taken care of.

If something breaks it's not coming out of my pocket.

You don't have to worry about ridiculousness electric, heating, and cooling bills.

You own less junk, because you have less room for the junk.

You know exactly how much you have to pay every month and you don't have to worry about things like property taxes, or having to pony up the cash to say fix the sidewalk or repave the road outside your place.

Safety wise there are more people around and it's probably more unlikely (especially if you know your neighbors) that someone will break into your place.

On the downside you're closer to your neighbors, and they can be a pain in the ass. However unlike when you have a house, it's much easier for you (or them) to relocate.

From a site that the majority of readers/contributors would put their money into stocks over real estate and typically carries a negative connotation towards anything real estate.

Curious that you would post that on renting vs. buying a house when he simply asked about a House vs. Apartment.

Better to Rent than Buy a Home -- Seeking Alpha

A house you can do what ever you want... new kitchen.. new paint... new carpet... pool?... BBQ island?... As long as the house has a 10 ft lot line you don't have to worry much about noise complaints.

don't underestimate the extra stress of owning a house. Especially in this business when your income can vary so much.
Plus property taxes and are a bitch.

I dunno I wanted a house for a long time but never got around to getting one so I'm in an apartment. But it's the first apartment I've ever actually liked so I don't mind sticking around in it for a while as a house can be a boat load of work and expense.

Apartment! Any-day! There's no other feeling like standing on top of the world and looking down at the sobs that walk below. Its one of those forbidden ego boosts.

Dude, if you can afford it, get a house. Think of it as an investment. The more money you dump into the house, the more money you will get back.
