Just picked up a sweet midi keyboard for my brother for Christmas. I've messed with this stuff for years but never done anything serious.

There is some really cool free software out there, last time I was playing with some cool free stuff I downloaded at d-lusion interactive media curiously, they now use adsense to make money.

I collected quite a bit of MIDI hardware over the years, and it mostly sat around unused. I just started to get back into it, and have quickly realized that these days all I need is a computer and a keyboard. All my sound and fx modules sit unused in boxes. There's some half-decent free software, but I found a package that I *really* like that's not free, FL Studio at FL Studio ...

used to have a ton of gear. tr-707, tr-606, esq-1, mc-202, sh-101, juno-6, mc-500, two decks and a mixer.

it's all gone now, but I miss the good old day of producing... yeah, it's just alot easier to get a copy of reason and a decent sound card these days... but i still love the feel of gear :)

I was really into producing, or rather recording, for a few years, I had a metal band with some of my friends.

At my parent's house (I can't have this stuff in my apartment) I have 10 recording mics (2 very high quality condenser, the rest are Shure 57 and 58s), a good drum set, a Line 6 Vetta recording amp, a bass amp, a few guitars (Gibson and Fender) and a 16 channel mixer. I used Cakewalk Sonar for recording.

for recording and mixing vocals, adobe audition (formerly cool edit) is great unless you have a PC that is compatible with protools.

Fruity Loops is awesome for creating instrumentals. the names weird, but the program is great. I've used it for about 5 years or so.

I've got a pair of Technics SL-1200M3D's with a crappy mixer collecting dust in my bedroom. I've always wanted to learn how to mix trance tracks. But only got around to buying the set, never learned how to actually use it. I also pick up vinyl records of good tracks or DJ's that I've always wanted. Hopefully I'll have more free time over the next year to dedicate to the hobby.

There is this way cool setup I saw once online selling software and hardware that used vinyl records, but allowed you to use a laptop and use mp3's connected to the decks somehow. Looked expensive, but fun. I'll have to check that out again when the day comes for me to get into it seriously.

same boat, had to leave my ragged ass drum set up north ....can't play it in an appt complex....and hesitant to rip loud on guitar so I playin mostly acoustic....I have 3....

let's start a wickedfire band

I've had Fruity Loops for about 5 years, too. Also Acid Loops, Sonar. They all are good but each seems to have some limitations. Never tried cool edit or pro tools. Also had a trial with Reason but lost interest. I just usually use an old version of Guitar Tracks by Cakewalk and Line 6 pod and bass pod, Boss DR-5 for drums and a yamaha keyboard. It's all old stuff but it works for what I do.

Metal. Specifically, Power Metal. I was in a Thrash Metal band previous though.

Pro Tools kicks ass, I couldn't afford it then, but when I buy my next house, I'm going to set aside a room for my recording studio and go all out.

How's that Vetta sound live? I use a Marshall but would like some different sounds. The Pod plugged in to the PA is ok but kind of thin sounding.

It sounded fine for me live, enough power although not as much as a tube based Marshall or Mesa. A bit of tweaking is required for stage use imo. In my studio, it was awesome, I'll try to find some tracks but I may have destroyed them because the singer was so bad. I play guitar btw.

power metal

what kind of ax do you play?

I like heavy music but not sure what qualifies as 'power metal' these days....I go as about hard as system of a down, more than that is just noise :)

I've plugged the Pod and a digitech effects board into the effects send on the Marshall...it bypasses the preamp tubes and just uses the power tubes...it sounds decent but cuts the power down a bit...and like you said a lot of adjusting....I haven't upgraded stuff in years, I'll bet the newer line 6 stuff like the vetta is really good

Power Metal = Sonata Arctica, Rhapsody, DragonForce.... More technique and speed, than brains and emotion.

My main Guitar is a Gibson SG 'Supreme'. I also have a Flying V, and Fender Strat. I have a Martin acoustic that I play most often now.

Of course they are banking it from Adsense.. the DJ industry is fucking huge, and pricey too. Great niche to get into for content or arbitrage sites. Also it's even bigger in the UK and Europe than it is here.

Become an affiliate of zzounds and there's about a thousand niches waiting for anybody...just don't put it all on the same site like most dopes do...

final scratch is probably what you are thinking of. it's pretty wicked. uses timecoded vinyl to queue tracks. it's the closest you are ever going to get to spinning on decks (with digital that is).

I got a fender strat USA, mesa boogie amp, few keyboards, piano, PA system and a few other things sitting in my studio now.

When we got this flat out the back of our house, I convinced my parents to build a studio for me. Pimping it now :)

You ever sell anything through Zzounds though? I sent them about 1000 really targetted guitar related clicks and they converted a guitar strap and a couple of sets of strings out of all of it. Not quite the earner I expected....
