Doing 56 in a 30 (which is a 6 point violation in NY state)... I don't have any valid excuse. Any idea how much this is gonna cost me? It doesnt say on the ticket and I can't find out anything on the website because it says to basically wait and see after you send in your plea.

Next question; is there any reason to not plea not guilty on the small chance that the officer doesnt show up... you get a kind judge... etc?

Third question; how bad is this gonna hurt me on my car insurance?

Final question; whats your best excuse why you were speeding? The reason why I was speeding was mostly because i have 3 finals tomorrow and I needed to get some food fast so I could get back to my studying. Lame excuse but its true.

Thanks guys
-Chris

P.S. I dont need anyone to tell me 'you deserve it' 'you shouldnt be going so fast' etc etc- I know. Thanks

Just tell them that your mother was dying and you were getting there as fast as you can, just bribe yo momma and tell her what you said and to back you up.

Theres nothing not being a man about trying to get a lighter penalty on a traffic ticket. I'm not in denial that I deserve it because I do but why not try and get a lighter penalty if possible?

That's a tough one man, speeding tickets suck. I don't know how it is in NY, but in CA you can opt to take "traffic court" to keep it off your driving record so your insurance doesn't go up. You still have to pay the fine, but you can keep your record clean. It costs like $20, and you can do it online... in CA anyways.

how old are you? it's a scam in New York State...

You plead not guilty...you go to court.. they reduce it to a non-moving violation...you agree to go to and pay for a driver safety course..upon completion you pay the fine for bald tires or whatever..saves you tons in insurance money and feeds local coffers...

I'm serious...no bullshit...if you plead guilty and pay the fine you get a 30% surcharge on your insurance for 36 months...

I don't know about NY, but in the last 3 years my wife and I have each gotten a speeding ticket. She also got one about 3 weeks ago. Here in Florida the tickets are pretty much standard..."x over" = "x $$$" plus points. They always give you the option to go to traffic school, which you can pay for and complete online, which will also reduce the cost of the ticket and not place points on your license.

However, after talking with my insurance agent I was told that if this was not a frequent occurance (out records were clean for 10+ years prior to these except for me totalling my car 3 yrs ago) then our insurance should be fine, even if the points were added to the record.

Well it did do something...ironically our insurance dropped earlier this year about $30 per month.

I plan on pleading not guilty, asking for a delay (legitimate reason), and then hoping the cop doesnt show up/getting a nice judge.

I know how to handle myself in an intelligent manner when dealing with authority figures in a respectful and submissive way.

Pleading guilty is just plain stupid in most cases. Pleading not guilty is not unethical if you are doing it knowing what you did was wrong and you are opting for an alternative punishment. If you disagree with me, thats fine but this is how I see it.

Its a speeding ticket for christ sakes! They have you on radar! Go hire a lawyer waste 10X the money you would have if you would have just payed the mother fucker and moved on.

Get on with it man! you fucked up, pay the fine and move on man!

The only way you will skip is if the radar was not caliburated within its scheduled maintenance period.

I know that in NC, you can have your first offense as a warning and you go on some sort of probation where you can't get another infraction or you get both counted against you. A friend of mine did 100 in a 65, and his lawyer got him a "warning".

Get a lawyer, he'll know the ins and outs of the law in NY.

jerx, the lawyer will be cheaper than 6 points, the insurance costs, and shit.

Take this opportunity to research as much as you can for speeding ticket violations and lawyers and make damn good websites and hit the websites with as much traffic as possible. :) you are going to be needing the money..
Look at every opportunity from now on as direct or indirect exposure to niche opportunities.

jerxs - what Joe said. It is incredibly stupid to roll over and just accept the fine to the max. The fine, plus increased insurance premiums will most definitely set you back a lot more than you think.

Joe- thats exactly what I'm hoping for; a warning and traffic class.

I'm going to contact my university's head legal attorney (who I am very good friends with) and ask him what my best option are. I'm not trying to get off with no consequences, I would just rather them not be monetary.

Just fail all your tests, and then sue the cop, you americans can get away with anything

I'm not trying to get away with anything- Ive already said I have no problems accepting the consequences of my actions, I would rather just have them be in the form of something non-monetary.
