What is fair to charge a family member for something like this?

Family member owns a construction company and wants me to SEO him to the top for "city demolition". Demolition is a very profitable bus, especially when in a major city, and I scored him an exact match domain. Competition isn't extremely hard but not easy.

Any ideas on what would be a fair price to charge for making the site + seoing to #1? On one hand he's family and SEO isnt too hard for it, on the other he makes a ton per demolition job...
 


My advice would be don't do it. Give him all the good advice in the world and even buy him the domain and do a bit of free SEO on it if you wish. The second he pays you a buck is when the nightmare will begin, believe me I have fallen out with family members over this stuff.
 
Yeah don't do business with family or close friends. If you're going to do it do it free and consider it charity and hand it off to him after making it clear you can't support it going forward. In other words don't do it.

Don't do business with family. If you do, do it for love, not money. Hook him up with a good designer, make sure designer follows basic SEO standards, get him link building packages on WF. Forward all invoices to him.

I was just doing my own research and I found this thread on the internet. I didn't know this was such an uncomfortable position for you. I wish I knew you felt this! I just mentioned it to you casually and I can of course find other professionals to do it. I just knew how good you were with websites! I thought like that stuff.

Well next time I see you let's just not mention it and call it at that. I was looking into other Search Engine Companies and will go with one of them!

This thread is #6 for "city demolition seo" , so not really surprising he found it...

Although why are you in a awkward position? you just asked what you should charge him, no biggie.
