Not have health insurance? Don't expect a tax refund.

"The vast majority of American people have a healthy respect for the law and want to be compliant with their tax obligations," Shulman explained.

There's so much wrong with this single statement, I don't even know where to begin.

its because this is so easy to game. Just pay the fine, dont buy insurance (which is much more expensive then the fine), and then get it when you need it a la no preexisiting. They cant make the fines too high, so now they are pulling this bullshit.

OTOH, do your taxes right so you dont get a refund.

umm. everyone already knows about the penalty for not having insurance. to act surprised that they'd take this out of the money that they owe you, just like any other tax penalty, is pretty retarded.

When did health insurance premiums become a tax? I thought BO PROMSIED the people that he wouldn't tax anyone under 250k.

The vast majority of Americans don't even pay tax so who gives a fuck what their opinion is.

IMO if you're on any type of government handout your voting privilege should be revoked except in cases of actual physical disability which keeps you form working or for people who have served in the military.

Non-physically disabled people who have not served in the military on any type of welfare(food stamps, welfare, section8, medicare, medicare, ETC) should automatically have their voting rights suspended until they are able to support themselves. If you aren't capable enough of supporting yourself then you're vote should be void. At the very least it should count as less. Why should a welfare case who can't even hold down a job have his or her vote count equally to someone that is a responsible citizen, works, supports their family, and pays taxes? Bullshit.

God I'm sick of this fucking country. What's sad is there really isn't any place else to go as an alternative. Anyplace in the EU is 10x worse and it really starts going downhill when you start looking at other parts of the world. Middle East? Africa? South America? Meh....though atleast S. America is beautiful. I guess if I'm going to get kidnapped and killed it should happen in a place with pretty beaches and hot women ;D

The poor, lazy, and stupid are slowly taking over.

While this all sounds fine and dandy on the surface, it kind of tramples on the whole "all men are created equal" premise of our founding.

This is just WAY overboard. Tax refund has nothing to do with health insurance coverage.

In 1776 only about 10% of Americans could vote. White, male, property or livestock holdings, tax payer, etc. John Adams would be appalled.

this.

Not to make crazy assumptions, but I'd guess that 90+% of US people on WickedFire probably have health insurance - which means this wouldn't have an impact.

There's so much pissing and moaning over the mandate to cover everyone, yet most people here are already covered, wish they could get covered, or pay way to much for the coverage they buy. People don't want to admit that the plan is going to be really REALLY good for entrepreneurs.

You'll be able to buy coverage from a big exchange at a group rate, they will no longer able to refuse you or gouge you for having a preexisting condition. Your insurance won't be canceled if you have a major illness.

Too much whining, complaining and misinformation. bleh I try to keep out of these threads.

I think the issue is more about how now the government can force you to buy anything. It sets a new precedent.

Medicare? The program that Ron Paul, Mitch McConnell, John McCain, and most other Americans over age 65 participate in?

Also, welfare recipients are already the least likely demographic to make it to the polls and there's usually more people willing to work than there are jobs available.

The only entrepreneurs who would be helped by it are those that can't get insurance now because of some pre-existing condition. And they are the same people who will make this blimp of a program explode as they start to cash in on the care that they can no longer be refused. Any healthy self-employed individual can go on ehealthinsurance and select from a ton of plans that are under $100/month.

There may be people who are helped by it, but it will be at the expense of the economy, taxpayers, and quality of healthcare in the country.
