Sorely disappointed.

Brought my "RON PAUL WAS RIGHT" and "END THE FED" signs. Got very few comments on it, but the main thing that disturbed me was it turned into gay bashing and anti-abortion.

"The gays in the bathhouses spread AIDS, we should just tell them to stop doing what they do!"

"Protect them unborn babies!"

It focused more on religious issues than economic ones. It's no wonder this has lost its way so fast, these fundamentalists need to go.

I got in an argument with an older man who called me a 'liar' for saying Thomas Jefferson was deist, not Christian. Asked him if he'd jump off a cliff if his preacher told him to, he didn't like that too much. He said I was crazy and that America needs prayer in schools and God/the 10 commandments in the courthouse. I called him a religious extremist no better than the terrorists, and he really got mad and threatened with violence. The irony.

These people are marginalizing themselves, it makes them look like a complete joke. Need to focus on the issues that actually matter, not this social wedge bullshit.

I would have to argue with you as well on the whole "TJ was a deist thing"

P.S. It's just like any other movement. Your always gona have your extremist mixed in.

They're no better than terrorists because they want prayer in public schools and the Ten Commandments in courthouses? Really? Wow.

And btw, deist now doesn't mean what deist back then did. The people now try to say he was some type of agnostic atheist; he wasn't, he believed in Christ, he just wasn't sure about several tenets within that. But seriously, dude, if you look at the people who signed the Declaration of Independence, it's about 90% Christian. The reason TJ is brought up so much is because he's the only one who had some reservations, which is why they holler and say "See? How dare you say this nation had Christian roots!"

Judeo-Christian roots and falsifying the beliefs of the founding fathers to prop up your own cause are different things. He believed Jesus was a prophet..not the savior. He was a deist in the sense of the believed in God - more specifically Unitarian. He did not follow the Trinity, and rejected the concept that Jesus was the savior, but was not Jewish since he respected the teachings of the new testament. Jefferson wasn't the only one, either.

He's no better than a terrorist because he wanted to *force* his beliefs on others, and was resorting to insulting and threatening me with violence.

That explains everything. Unfortunately without the votes of these people we'd have even more socialism already.

Too bad a huge amount of them receive from social programs like welfare, disability, social security, etc etc. Disability/SS/Medicare/Medicaid fraud are so huge in South Carolina it isn't funny.

Totally agree. I like Ron Paul, but so many of the people out there supporting him keep me from supporting him; I don't want people like that having influence over a leader should Paul ever take higher office.

This wasn't a Paul rally - many of them had no idea who Paul was. The majority in this area liked Huckabee for religious reasons.

People at a political rally didn't know Ron Paul? Why am I not surprised.

Right, except terrorists kill people while apparently all this guy wanted was a simple prayer in schools and a historical statue of the Ten Commandments in courthouses. And according to your story, he threatened you with violence after you called him a terrorist. I dunno, seems like a hysterical comparison.

Forcing prayer (no matter how simple) as well as having a religious statue on courthouse grounds, is wrong. Period. Not everyone in this country believes the ten commandments; on top of that, it's one of those convenient parts of the old testament that fundamentalists choose to follow (forget Leviticus though; we're going to pick and choose what we like.)

I doubt you'd appreciate it if public schools had prayer mats and a chant over the PA system to remind muslim students when it's time to face Mecca and pray. In fact I bet you'd fight it.
