Saffron themselves are very light, so theres a bit there if you bought a full ounce, also did you make sure they actually gave you the good stuff, meaning you got the actual pollen stems and not so much extra crap?
Besides saffron, actual vanilla beans, dried or otherwise are the next most expensive spice you can still commonly get.
Speaking of saffron, I remember watching food network a few times and you just see em grab a handful of that shit and chuck it in and I'm thinking "dude... thats like 200$ worth of saffron you just threw in there..."'
It takes very little of that stuff to get some flavor out of it, especially if you make it with a rouge.

yeah saffron is the shit.. i know a couple growers in the middle east and italy areas... shit is worth a ton.
