Most ridiculous article I've read in a long time.
On the main page of Yahoo this morning

teenage-entrepreneurs: Personal Finance News from Yahoo! Finance

Mostly talks about this asian high school chick who is on her third startup (fail much?) and launching her newest one at some VCs at a web 2.0 conference.

She's awesome because she has huge disadvantages says her
"My age, my gender and my lack of experience don't deter me from going after what I want for the company," says Ms. Keng, who runs marketing for MyWeboo.com from home and co-founded the venture with her 25-year-old brother, Steven.
Or does she?
her father, a venture capitalist who splits his time between Beijing and Cupertino and gave her $100,000 in seed money.
So he already has all the VC people kissing his ass and gives his daughter 100k in seed money to blow on 3 startups and she still can't get one off the ground while she has her older brother build the site.

Are they trying to be inspiring with this shit? Rich well connected kids playing around with parents money.

not trying to stir up a libel suit here. but yahoo finance journalists are well-known for being able to write what people want.

;- )

Gotta say, im not entirely sure what makes this a ridiculous article? Obviously the girl is a little out there if she thinks shes at a disadvantage with 100k in the bank. But other than that......

read the differences between the past examples of kids their age succeeding in web startups(last portion of the article) and the present kids(the rest of the article) in the article and you'll see why its ridiculous.

THEM
Yet each morning, Ms. Keng also heads to Cupertino's Monta Vista High School for a schedule of classes that includes Advanced Placement economics and government. In the afternoons, the high-school senior squeezes in varsity badminton practice.
THE TRUE ENTREPRENEUR
"For the first two years that it took me from starting Click Agents to selling it, I basically sacrificed my youth," says Mr. Chahal, who dropped out of high school to focus on his start-ups. "I slept and worked in the office."

Bro if you have to drop out of high school to be considered a true entrepreneur then just about all of the the worlds entrepreneurs are not true entrepreneurs. College if a different ball game, but high school not so much.

lol way to pick out one portion of his example of SACRIFICE for his dream and pretend i said its a requirement for all entrepreneurial dreams then using that to dodge the entire willingness to sacrifice at all in order to succeed concept to fit your idea that in order to succeed you must already be privileged in what will eventually turn into a rational for not trying at all.

I see what you did there :)

However what is required, and I doubt there's a successful person who would disagree, in order to be a ground up entrepreneurial success it requires extreme sacrifices and the basic acceptance to give up everything for it. The article unfortunately focuses on young entrepreneurs who don't seem too willing to make those sacrifices while there's plenty of kids out there who will never make it in the news cramming in as much work as possible right now before their school day starts.

So tell me how because she goes to school and plays a sport she doesent make sacrifices to grow her business? Logic=flawed

Yes I would say not wanting to give up an after school sport to put more time into her business falls well below the mark of making sacrifices.

She also doesn't seem to be suffering from any black eyes caused by lack of sleep

I don't know... call it jealousy if you want.

sounds like she's just throwing rehashed shit against the wall hoping it sticks, and daddy is trying to buy her off because he's never home.

That may very well be the case, im not defending her business plan or ideas. I personally wouldnt use her site but thats irrelevant.

My point is simply, you have to give credit where credit is due. And all of her businesses may fail, but talk to the millions of other kids her age and you will find very few with her ambition and drive to succeed. American kids are lazy, and consequently many adults are lazy because they have no ambition to better themselves.

As far as im concerned its more impressive that they are balancing school, a sport and a business.

How to Get Rich by Felix Dennis. Stop fucking wasting your time reading shit. The only reason why I ever read the finance sites is for the stocks I track.

Oh and btw, the only magazine I read these days is The Economist. And onlllllyyyyy a handful of good blogs. Holler me Eli if you want my list.

Seriously - stop giving a shit about everyone else and do your own shit. That is the only thing which will make you monies.

There was a popular letter from a disgruntled hedge fund manager who called it quits after betting on the collapse of the real estate market. This guy posted near 1000 percent returns (if I remember correctly) and wouldhave personally netted insane amounts of money. The same thing you are talking about chapped his ass as well. He sacrificed so much while watching the children of the elite get into Yale then HBS based on their bloodlines and connections. Speaking of that, I read somewhere that another hedge fund guy got his start while working a shitty job and reading forums. It's insane how much informa under our noses.

reading that article I cant help but think how effective that Yahoo article would be as a landing page. Soft pitch at the end FTW!!!!

i would slap my dick all across that girls slightly chubby asian face if i were single and it were legal.

Gurbaksh Chahal started online ad company Click Agents in San Jose when he was 16, and sold it for $40 million two years later. He then founded ad network BlueLithium, which he sold for $300 million when he was 25.

Gurbaksh Chahal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In September 2009, Chahal started his third venture, gWallet, a virtualcurrency platform for social media. He remains the Chairman & CEO of the Company.[8] On December 1, 2009, gWallet raised its first institutional round of financing totaling $12.5 million from Adam Street Partners, Trinity Ventures, Stanford University and various others.

I fail to understand why he needed to raise 12 mill from third parties when his net worth is 100 mill. can anyone explain the logic here? thanks

Because 1. he knows with his track record that he will get the money, and 2. not really necessary to take a 12 mil risk when you dont have to
