This is based on Greenwich Mean Time. Which is why we consider America part of the west, not part of the East.

Referring to Asia as the "far East" is a European term that predates standard times and stems mostly from ancient trade routes. You know, before there was known to be anything much more "west" than England. This is why there's the "far East"...China, Japan, etc. and the "middle East" (all those sandy places where dem terrorizers live).
I thought this was common knowledge taught in middle school.
Must have went to a private school with all that fancy its "cause Britain was the center of the world" stuff.
If someone considers Asia East and Europe West, it seems pretty easy to deduce what they considered the center of the world.
