Gaming + Procrastination

I wasted a lot of time back in december-mars playing League of Legends. I uninstalled it though. Gaming can really hurt your productivity.

I haven't bought a new console since the original Xbox. The only game I've really been tied too was Runescape. I still play it, but mainly I just leave myself logged in to chat with old friends and work in another window. I haven't had the desire to really level any skills on it in a couple years.

Now, I use to be heavily addicted to Delta Force 2 from 2000-2005. That's actually what had me learning graphic and web design so that I could put up gaming clan websites.

Bad company 2 was the last game I had on my PC. I had to uninstall it three times before it stuck, but it's been a month or two now and it(the game or gaming) doesn't even come to mind anymore.

I've had to convince myself that games are basically evil, brain wasting, time devouring monsters... and I've gamed all my life since Tandy PC's with 66mhz/2mb ram, if I can quit in an effort to be more productive so can anyone.

I always loved this following quote,

"Wealth is not in making money, but in making the man while he is making the money."

You are not a millionaire/billionaire right now because you aren't who you need to be to become one. Ask yourself, What is it about yourself that you need to re-evaluate to become who you want to become, to get where you need to go?

No, quitting games won't make you all the money in the world but it's sure as hell a crucial first step if you're doing 10 hour sessions several times a week. What has all those late night sessions, no matter how much fun you had, ever given you in real world? More money? no. Spiritual development? no. Women? no. Fulfilment? no. My answer to this question is 'absolutely fuck all'.

Taking those previously used low energy/intensity hours and allocating them to productive/development time is a whole other story. We are creates of habit on a deeply unconscious levels, your body will resist, you'll be tempted by mundane things, but press on - you are a simple mammal which will die in 60-80 years.

Want to lay on your deathbed remembering all those cool kill streaks you did in call of duty, or reminisce that you laid down your own path when you had the opportunity to do so?

I'm addicted to WoW .. it's pretty bad and eats about 50% of all my freetime with the other 50% going to sleeping/shitting

its baddddd

I have characters on 2 servers I level and raid with .. I wish I cold stop but its the ongoing feeling of "finishing" them that keeps me going. Sad story - oh well

Fifa is the shit. It's usually what I play but I've been trying to finish Red Dead Redemption the last week or two. Once I finish that I'll probably trade it in for World Cup 2010.

+1 to fuck you sc2.

its almost like a second job. A fun second job of owning people. I need SC2 rehab.

call of duty modern warfare 2. that is all that has to be said.

after playing a shit ton of games as a kid, i didn't own a video game system for like 6 years during college and after. then i bought a Xbox 360 in august last year, with CODMW2.

The game is so fucking fun - but i sold it yesterday. Just can't live with myself knowing how much time i spent playing that game.

wise decision. i've had to do that with every CoD game. its a love-hate relationship for sure

Idk why people get all bent out of shape when people say they play games for like 3-4 hours per day when the average american watches like 5 hours of TV a day.

It's a balancing act and depends on the person really. If they have an addictive nature they will be more prone to procrastinate and spend their time playing video games rather than focusing on their work/job/project/whatever.

That being said, I consider myself a gamer at heart, but I always get my work done before I do any gaming. :) Gaming doesn't pay the bills.

Fixed.

Think about it this way, most successful affiliate marketers are far smarter than the average populous and know better than to burn their brains on television. (keep in mind average IQs don't even go over 110, that's nearly retarded...)

Games are fun, no doubt. They just get in the way of our making money and improving our general welfare.

I was addicted to sports and would play for hours nearly seven days a week when I should of been working

Gaming / TV / Sports they all get in the way of making monies.

I don't know if I'd call someone an idiot perse. If you want to watch TV and enjoy doing it then why not watch it. You can easily work 8-10 hours a day, and still watch 5 hours of TV, especially if you do it passively or break it up into segments.

But there's no use working 10 hours a day for more money so you can spend your free time working to make more money.
