Okay this has been a crazy couple days. I flew out to FL this week b/c I had to be at court this morning on some bullshit. Anyways after court I went to the mall to get some nike cross trainers and shorts so I wouldnt have to walk around in the heat in loafers and slacks... turned out to really come in handy tonight.
We were driving back down I95 south on the highway and I was
looking down at my phone listening to music when my friend who was driving swerved over to the side of the road - he had noticed the guy in a van behind us swerving, and saw him careen off the road. He's got his EMT certification so he got out of our car and starts running back back about 175 yards to where he last saw the
guys van.
We could see the bare marks of earth in the grass on the side of the highway marking where the van had tumbled & flipped off the road, and it was lying on its side about 50 ft off the road, where it had finally come to a stop after barreling between two trees.
As we got closer we could see how bad it looked. Half the front windshield had fallen out during the first part of the crash as it was just doing barrel rolls. It then glanced off a tree - luckily it
didnt hit the tree head on or it wouldve been alot worse.
When we got closer - we found the lone driver was out cold crumpled/folded into the passenger seat w/ his head smashed against the inside of the wall of the car - so he had been thrown around lieke a rag doll from not wearing a seat belt =\
my friend was already on the phone with the 911 dispatch by that point - i saw him kill the van's ignition and i immediately thought to check for gas leaks/fumes - then I sprinted up the highway about a half mile to the nearest mile marker to find out where we were. I had court this morning and after court I bought a new pair of running shoes so i wouldn't have to walk around in loafers all day - they definitely turned out to come in handy tonight running.
Anyways my boy managed to wake the guy up and keep talking to him and keeping him from going back unconscious until ambulances got there.
They got the jaws of life in and cut the back of the car open so they could get to the guy:

They finally got him on a stretcher and carried him to the ambulance

Medivac flew in, and they airlifted him to the hospital.. and we got out of there after giving an officer a report of what happened. I gotta call the hospital in the morning and see how the guy fared - but it was pretty ugly. He had head trauma, not to mention w/e the fuck else was wrong from getting thrown against the van wall like that,
Anyways it was just really lucky I wasnt still wearing loafers and slacks becuase the brush all around the crash site was pretty thick and I sure wouldn't have been able to sprint up to the mile markers to find out where the fuck we were. Not to mention we got held up hanging out late with some friend which was the only reason we were on the road so late anyways.
If we weren't in front of him and one of us hadnt seen him run off the road, nobody wouldve noticed until the next morning probably.. its just surreal. Dont drive without your seatbelt on, thats for damn sure. It was such a crazy thing to go through - and i kinda felt like sharing - been saving my 500th post for something out there - this seemed to qualify. Gonna edit some more of the pics tomorrow and upload a video of the medivac helicopter the guy up and out of there.
