What Email Client Do You Use?

I'm just upgrading to Win7 and noticed Outlook Express is gone. Yep, I loved it, but it's super slow. So I wondered what you use?

I'm looking for something that can manage domain1.com, domain2.com etc and keep them all in a clean identity. So if I log into the ID of domain1.com, I can only see A@domain1.com, B@domain1.com - NOT a mishmash of all domains and ID's.

I'm messing with Thunderbird but it seems to do the mish mash. Not great.

What do you use?

hotmail plus with rules and folders for the rules (no seriously hotmail) keeps my activity well out the way of the big G added bonus I can log in anywhere and use the search which is handy
you can also add identities so you can "send" from different email addresses, they also have a good spam filter

if I need to extract a list of emails then I use the outlook connector for hotmail and pull them into a nice big excel list

I just use Apple Mail, the only realistic alternative would be Thunderbird on a mac. As for windows... Thunderbird also exists there but you could also just use Windows Live! (since outlook express no longer seems to exist)

But yea thats one thing I didn't like about Thunderbird, having one big massive mailbox. Well Apple does that too except you can simply click down a folder to isolate your account view.

I use Thunderbird. I downloaded the portable version and installed it within My Dropbox folder so that I can check my E-mail from all my computers and ensure that my E-mail gets backed up.

I didn't like Outlook or Outlook Express and it was always subject to corruption. I have to fix that on client's computers a lot. That's not why I stopped using it though - the bloody thing would format my E-mails funky so that when I saw a reply to one of mine, there were insane amounts of spacing between the lines.

I also use Gmail and their Lab's addon called "Multiple Inboxes" to manage my personal accounts as well as my school E-mail. It's fairly basic, but it works.

You can do that in Thunderbird. You can make sub folders inside the inbox and have filters auto place E-mails in them. You can then use a little checkbox to expand or contract the folders.

With v3 of Thunderbird, there is a smart inbox and you can change views. I made several saved "Searches" that act as different folders and can view all the E-mails I have for different parts of my business. Thunderbird has also made it so that you can use tabs to view your mail. It's much better than v2.

I haven't used Apple Mail, so I can't really compare them more than what you just described.

I use thunderbird and now, thanks to many on here, the vastly superior Mail.

@OP I don't know what you're on about mishmash accounts, because i have many, they all have their own everything (inbox, sent, deleted, drafts)? Thunderbird makes outlook express look wank, especially once you add lightening.

Same. Thunderbird FTW. Clean email interface + plugins.

Postbox.. its a modified, more feature-rich version of Thunderbird.

Although now, its getting slow since I have about 5 different domains. I'm switching back to Thunderbird due to the lack of a unified inbox.

I don't get this whole unified inbox thing. Obviously i don't want it, but it seems everyone has it. Every new account i add has it's own separate everything.

Although saying that, i have a feeling a TB2, I use 3 now, well actually i don't i moving to Apple Mail, used to have a check box option when you add accounts, which said something like create it's own folder/inbox. No one ever tick that?

Edit: besides, has no one heard of rules? If it comes from this mail account, move to this folder? :)

Yep they all have their own sub folders, but I wanted something which can actually have a single login/ID for each of my domains.

So say there is an email sent to me@mydomain1.com. I shouldn't be able to reply to that received email from me@mydomain2.com.

Is there some way around this in ThunderBird? So far it's cool except for that mish mash of having every email account accessible from one on screen view.

Any ideas/tips/tricks/hacks?

PS: if you use rules, you can only sort mail. But you can still reply to the wrong email from the wrong domain (esp when creating a new email and sending it out, in a rush). That's what I wanted to avoid, you see. With seperate accounts this is impossible - and in my case, ideal!
