NYU Public Affairs Wants Me To Change My Blog Post

So I got this email from a representative from NYU yesterday:

Dear Sir:

The below post mischaracterizes NYU's endeavor into (keyword):

404 - Not Found

The post, drawing from a Newsweek item (which i link to as a source in my blog post), maintains "New York University has increased their (keyword) to cater to the demand of the student population."

The Newsweek item, written by (a dean), says nothing of the sort. Please correct the above post.

I responded back apologizing he feels that way, I hit him up for an interview or an interview from some from the department I wrote about, and said if I can quote someone from NYU that proves what I said is not true or the direction NYU is going, then I would correct the post ASAP.

This was yesterday and I haven't heard back from the guy...any thoughts?

I'm a little scared since it is NYU and they have a pretty good law school..lol
 


If your site is legit, meaning it isn't a made for adwords site, then I would LOVE something like this. Imagine if a university goes after a journalist all the publicity you could get! Plus slander is a lot more difficult to use as a means to remove a site than say copy write infringement.
 
Yeah. This is a complete whitehat site not made for adwords...there is little to no advertising anywhere other than an adsense block in my search results.

I have noticed an increase of traffic from NYU recently...probably public affairs sending the link to everyone in the office...lol

Strange thing is, my site only gets like 150 uniques a day, so its starnge they would even care...guess the site looks professional enough and is ranking for a few NYU terms now...

Having read both articles (yours and the newsweek) you'd probably want to rewrite yours into more of an opinion ... "with this newsweek article it seems like NYU is {{ moving towards | adding emphasis on their }} (keyword)"

Everybody is happy and you still get your keywords.

To claim that the article "says nothing of the sort" is just as erroneous as saying that it does.

After all you did link to the original article.

Just make it more editorial opinion and then the 1st Amendment and all that protects you. (its not like its slander anyways)

That's a safe call from Illinois...I'll probably do that as it'll ease my mind a bit :D

But I would def like to hear from them and possibly get a link back from the school should I get an interview and write a more "accurate" account of the direction they are moving in.

If you want a response, post the email he sent you on the blog, and detail your conversation with him. Say that if he wants the article corrected, he should accept an interview. Then post this new blog post here and get a bunch of us to comment on it. If he declines your interview, it could turn into bad PR in his eyes.

Oh btw, you might want to take the name of the school and/or his office/name out of this thread, as this forum is indexed by Google and likely to show up in search results. Unless you want him to find this, of course :)
 
1) You're right, I'll have the Mods help with changing name since i already founf it indexed

2) He responded to my email and gave me a longer explanation and alternatives to use in my post....the email was sent to my office email which is no where published on my site...not hard to get though

3) I want to work the situation out to add credibility to my site and myself as a professional...as I write about many schools in the US.
