Is using video of yourself on sites just an ego trip?

Yeah, I understand the "trust" and "credibility" argument. But I just hate ending up on a website where I hope to skim through all the text and I have to spend 10 minutes watching and listening to some goofball going on and on about the same shit when I could read it in a few seconds.

Same goes for squeeze pages with some guy up there acting like a second hand car salesman.

OK ... it may work. But OTHER than the fact that it might be more effective why do people do it? Especially on info sites, or membership sites?

1) Their ego
2) It's easier to speak then write
3) Harder to rip off the content

If it really is more effective - I mean markedly so, I would really like to know. I have free access to PROPER studios, editing and production (my wife works in TV and I have done TV work before) and could put up some quality stuff - not some "I'm a wanker doing a carcast" crap.

is there an actual question buried in there somewhere?

PS: No one cares if you can do it better, the sad fact is you're probably whining cuz some 'goofball' actually making money by doing something you didn't... actually doing it.

None of the above.

The #1 reason to use video these days is that people just don't know how to fucking read anymore. Most just won't read. And they can't read well even if they try. They don't have the attn span for it anymore. Text doesnt have enough "sparkle" for them to pay attn to it anymore. You need loud colors, graphics, and even better video.

Yeah man, the question is the bit a the top called "question".

I'm wondering if is it just an ego trip or if is it a worthwhile excercise.
Or maybe these people can't string a convincing sentence together in text.
I have no idea, that's why I'm asking.

You tell me, you're the "consultant"

Taking this to the next level, with a carcast maybe I need to split test whether I get better results with a light tan interior or get down to Hertz and try a few different models and colors. Or maybe make a carcast driving through a few different neighbourhoods.

Hmmm Hertz, thats about as fun as watching Banner Blindness asking for a 50K downpayment from investors in a video if him and his boys sitting around eating pizza in his grandmother's living room.

If you got a studio, hire some talent and use it, a sales page is going to be far more effective with some dude who looks like he's made it telling you how to get there than "Hi, this is me in a rental... which won't crash as hard as my offer".

Video is amazing.

-BUT-

Professionally produced video is MORE amazing! lol

Using video of yourself can work at times. But, often, the conversions would be better if you used someone else. A professionally written and produced video can deliver points and establish credibility much better in most cases.

The internet is full of people saying "You don't need to use more than a webcam and camtasia to make sales." But the majority of those people who use that have never actually made a good video so they wouldn't know the difference.

Truth ^ I've seen a lot of people create really crappy videos that actually hurt more than they do help. If you're going to do it, make sure you do it right.

There are too many variables to say for sure one would work better than the other across the board

a. an authentic style guy-with-cam video
b. a professionally produced and styled video

Worth split testing

Talking heads convert, but narrated powerpoint slides convert even better from our experience.
