Ok, so i just graduated college in may. I did pretty well in AM last summer, but that was due to the offer which is now long gone. I have not been able to replicate the success. However i have moved more into coming up with creative ideas for websites and am crawling with one AM campaign.

Anyway, I feel like I am in a very good position right now. I'm not working, not currently making much at all, but as for my mindset, i feel sharp and very creative about creating new websites... it's what i do almost all day long. I have one project that is gaining traction and another that I am waiting to be completed. I do not expect to bank of either, but i think i could do quite well for supplemental income.

The job offer I have is actually excellent given my situation and is what i wanted once i went into college. It's in consulting, and i'll be making decent money. The only thing i'm worried about is losing my creativity, and time to work on any side projects. Am i being retarded? or can this actually happen? I feel like when i commit tomorrow, my life is gunna be over and now i'm a slave to them. I'd really hate to lose the mindset i'm currently in, b/c i feel sharp and focused on getting my internet biz done, however if i can work and do it, i will be happy.

thoughts?

not currently making much at all
That'd be because you're offering logo design for $11.00. ;)

You won't lose your creativity, but you will lose time.

If you're in a stable environment (as in, you're able to make payments or have someone make them for you), don't get a job. Stick with AM or whatever until you're successful. It's pretty simple really, you either do or don't make enough to sustain a certain lifestyle. If you don't make enough, take the job and use every bit of spare time you have.

Get the job and quit when you start banking but know this, it's hard to make a full-time income from a part-time job. Money-wise.

but if the job gives you good social life, benefits etc, then go for it. Life isn't just about who makes the most money. :p

job is gunna give me good benefits and pay, and hopefully i'll work w/ some hot chicks .. i am a little worried about my social life tho. i know somone who has a consulting job for a different company and he says all he does is fucking work... literally

I really do have too much free time right now. I still work on what i can, but a lot of stuff is either in testing or being created.

my thought process right now is ... i have free time, i mine as well use it to make money. I always hear about the corporate world, so i mine as well try it for myself. this way i can see if i like it + get paid + get a better focus and understanding of what i want to do in the future + give me more motivation to succeed if i ever decide i'm going to quit

My personal advice, not at all knowing you:

DON'T TAKE IT UNLESS YOU'RE WORKING FROM HOME OR DEAD ASS BROKE.

The "golden handcuffs" are TOUGH to break. When I was in a cubicle, I was not in a good place mentally. But now I have a cushy sales job working out of home, and it's tough to leave.

I got into AM almost 2 years ago, and things started getting hot for me 8 months ago. I'm finally making enough to live and profit off of.

But the fact is, the comforts of that job make it hard for me to have a "fire under my ass" to put food on the table. If I was on my own, my business would be at least 2x bigger.

I've been talking about leaving for nearly a year, have enough in the bank to live like a bum for 5 years... and here I am, still reporting to someone else (I finally do have an escape plan solidly down - be ready for a massive tits explosion in about 2 months). It's to the point where I don't even talk to friends about it beacuse they're probably sick of the "quitting talk".

What I'm saying is, don't do what I did unless you're dead fucking broke or can do some extra hustling during the day if you work at home.

Stop making logos for other people, stop doing ANYTHING for other people, find a hot new product in a niche that very few of us give a fuck about, bust open WordPress, and start hustlin.

Cuz once you get that consistent paycheck and nice benefits from working your ass off all day, the last thing you're gonna wanna do is go home and start doing research, writing content, and building links.

Be your own man like I should have 12 months ago.

Further: You know you more than I know you, so ask yourself these questions:

What do you value?

What motivates you? I'm talking about motivation TOWARDS something positive, not motivation AWAY from something negative.

I value freedom, plain and simple. More so than I value fame, power, wealth, even sex. That's why sales job is awesome, but I now know I need more. Hence my answer above.

it was 100% whitehat ...

TBH tho, i'm not too focused on banking of weight loss, or bizops right now, hell, i'm not even very set on any type of paid traffic

i shifted my focus to making websites that ppl will use, and i will profit off of their traffic. If i can get that to pan out for me, then with that steady income i'll go back to pushing affiliate offers, but for now i've spent a lot on AM, and i've learned it makes no sense unless i'm already getting a steady stream of income somewhere else

edit: @berto, i'll be honest money is a big motivator to me right now, but thats only to have some bankroll later on. Believe me, i've been in college 4 years, and have been sitting on my ass since may, and its fucking boring and awesome at the same time. accepting this job really makes me feel like my life is over haha .... like i'm only getting 15 days a YEAR! that i can take off ... o boy

I think the surf board guy might be on to something.

Do this exercise.
1. Close your eyes.
2. Imagine yourself 5 years from now, what are your dreams, imagine that you've already achieved it, imagine you living THAT perfect day of yours.

Now work towards that.

The thing is, not everybody have the same goals, some value money, rep and fame, some value freedom, some are just straight up anarchists.
Some don't mind the heavy work load as long as their kids get a good education, and some only think about fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.

Forget the "hot chicks" at work -- never shit where you eat i.e. don't fuck people where you work. As far as "figuring out what you like", the corporate world will GLADLY tell you what it thinks you should be doing, which may have very little to do making steps toward your optimal wealth creation. Wage slavery will in most cases never get your rich. Companies hire people to fill roles to get the shareholders rich. Period.

If you've already banked in affiliate marketing, IMO entering corporate is moving backwards. Copious amounts of your time and energy WILL be taken from you in exchange for minimal money. Moreover, your creativity WILL be limited and sequestered. Consulting jobs are based on billing YOU out for as much of your time as possible. Did you just work 60 or 70 hours? Unless you're an independent contractor, you'll only get paid a measly "utilization bonus" -- which is always less than what your hourly rate would've been.

Moreover, the worst part about the "golden handcuffs" is that people in your shoes start creating lifestyles wherein they RELY on continual employment to continue living THAT way. They can't get OUT because the minute they leave, they're DOOMED. They leave one job and have to get another one IMMEDIATELY. No time or wiggle room to try something new, which could make them some REAL dough.

Now, if you enter corporate, keep your expenses trim, figure out the consulting game, learn a few things, get your programing or project management skills, then you'll still have options. Save some cash. The key is to never stop looking at your job as nothing other than a business -- because that's EXACTLY how they look at YOU. ALWAYS make career decisions like a business person, not a stupid sheep-employee -- which is how the vast, vast majority of Americans and probably most or all of your fellow classmates will operate for their entire lifetime.

Yeah, this is some cynical shit, but I'm speaking from experience. I wish somebody told me all this shit years ago. Then again, chances are I wouldn't have listened :)

My EXACT path. If you're gonna do this, and I still say you don't, make it 3 years, don't buy a house or get ANY loan, and don't get accustomed to a lifestyle that you won't be able to afford when getting back into AM.

15 days is actually good for a new employee in the US. Vacation policy like this is the biggest negative of Corporate America, IMHO.

i'm thinking of this job like this ... the work I am doing now i can easily get done in a few hours like 3-4 hours max, the rest of my time, i'm fondling my nutsack. taking this job give me instant money, more money than i would be making doing any of the things i'm currently working on. work will provide the cash flow, my side stuff will be priority still, i'll just grind it and swallow my pride while working.

@berto .. i hear my vaca is good ... on a side bar, my expenses are going to be so minimal it will be silly. i'm not buying a new car, i'll buy used, i'm not going to buy a house unless i plan to rent it out. i'm gunna live like a college kid making a corporate salary. basically

Sounds like you've made your decision, and I like your attitude on life. I still say F bizops/acai or whatever you're pimpin tho :P

Dating girls at work = bad idea. Become friends with them, but don't "cut the tree down at the trunk". Meet their non-work girlfriends and "cut the leaves, branches, and stems" by banging their friends and their friends.

consulting, very good way of making a shit ton of money.
BUT you will work insane hours especially as a junior, you will have no life outside work for long periods of time, clients as you will find out are almost universally fucking idiots who will drive you insane as will your bosses and peers.
However and heres the good news, in the next couple of years you will get a chance to see a load of different businesses, use that as an opportunity to learn what works and doesn't in real world business.

IM in all its forms may be realitvley new but in reality its not all that different from bricks and mortar business and most of the rules of P&L, sales, customer service etc are the same and still apply.

You can be a smuck like all the other sheeple doing a 9-5 where they do their job go home and dont give a fuck or you can think of work as a real world and infinitely more valuable form of college, where every day you get a crash course in how and how not to run your own business, use this time to learn and put some bank away.

The reason its taking me a while to get off the ground in IM is that I run my own consultancy and the fucker pays well enough that i lose time to it regularly, its not a bad thing as its a shit ton of cash but it is a pain and hard to completely break away from.

so good luck but whatever you do dont forget your main objective isnt a clock in 50 years time from the man 2 years before you drop dead of a heart attack. look, listen, learn and fuck off on your own and apply

Not necessarily - A number of the major consulting companies have recently changed things around as to not overwork their entry level consultants. Friends in the field say that things aren't that bad, at all. Consulting is a great start, and I know a lot of consultants who have gone on to form their own niche consultancies, or started their own companies afterwards. You can get a great exposure to the business world, in a ton of different skillsets. Frankly, you can probably do AM on the side with no problem, and combine experience from both to have an even stronger background in the future.
