Got a job offer .. help me out....

Alot of this hits fairly close to home.. I recently resigned from a "steady" "corporate" type of employment (Sr Loan Officer/Underwriter for the last 4 years or so..).. It just wasn't.. right anymore. If it ever was in the first place..

My advice? Keep doing what you do on the side, if you enjoy it - continue doing it. Don't sacrifice what you want and enjoy in life, to fill a perceived need.. I'd suggest trying the consulting thing out as well, who knows, you may love it.. It may provide some excellent experience. Worst that will happen - unless you let yourself be trapped by the situation - is that you will realize it sucks and doesn't mesh well with your personal goals.. So quit.

Sticking with AM and whatnot is probably more beneficial in the long run - learning to create your own money, passive and otherwise. But never pass up the opportunity for experience.

I really do have too much free time right now. I still work on what i can, but a lot of stuff is either in testing or being created.

my thought process right now is ... i have free time, i mine as well use it to make money. I always hear about the corporate world, so i mine as well try it for myself. this way i can see if i like it + get paid + get a better focus and understanding of what i want to do in the future + give me more motivation to succeed if i ever decide i'm going to quit

I understand the comment about "too much free time," but for me this always means I have more time to work on business for myself. I either find something fun to do with all that extra time or I think about how I would feel using that time to work and live for someone else. Then I think " Oh, shit. Time to get to work!" because I would fucking hate "needing" to spend all that time working somewhere else- whether it's McDonald's or a relatively "great" job doesn't matter. That's time I could be using to build my own shit and/or enjoying life. It's time that I will never get back. Fuck A Job.
 
Do what feels right, as said above by turbo.

If I were you however, I would get the job. Work IM as a side project.

You still have 5-6 hours every weekday when you get home from the 9-5 job.

That's plenty to work on IM.

I've had my very successful days where I only had to work 1 hour a day, and then I've had some piss poor days where I worked for 10 hours in one day and got shit in return.

IM is like a sidehobby kind of thing. More money, more shit to buy. Even if it makes you $xxxx a day, I wouldn't drop the 9-5 job.

Trust me, you're going to get bored working at home all day unless you have an affiliate ring living nearby and you guys party and go out on weekends and write up business plans during the weekdays.

Of course, I don't know your situation. If things are stable on your side and you know that if you turn down the offer you can still get it back in 4-5 months, then go for the IM.

If you're financially needy, get the 9-5 job.

Also, someone said above that when you have limited time you have more focus. That is 100% true.

When I had school and I had only 1-2 hours a day to work IM, I had one of my biggest breakthrough months. I also worked my ass off.

Over the summer, I've had 8+ hours of free time per day, and I'm earning shit compared to my previous months. I got lazy. I slacked off. No matter how hard I try to motivate myself, I just couldn't do it.

When I have limited time however, it's like a switch goes off. I Just start working like a robot and creativity juices spew out of my pores.

Why $11 for a logo? Can you really spend the amount of time it takes to turn out quality logo designs for $11?

That's 11 minutes dedicated to creating someone's identity if you are billing yourself out at $60 an hour, which you should at least be doing.

I work on most logos for 1 to 3 days or more. You'd have to turn out at least 50 or 60 logos to begin approaching what one decent paying logo gig starts at, and that's what I would consider entry level if you are serious about this stuff and do work for serious clients.

Do you want to work your ass off day and night to turn out 200+ logos to make ends meet every month and burn yourself out in the process? Or would you rather spend time making quality product turning out 2 or 3 logos, working less and making more?

Whatever you decide on, take pride in yourself and your work and don't be a pushover.

not sure about your current AM setup. but i personally only spend 1-2 hours max per day actually launching campaigns.. most of my time is taken up by biz chat and checking stats to see nothing is fucked up which is easily possible if you had a desk job. thats me though, could be a different situation for you.. good luck
 
Meh,

I work to have steady money. Once my AM stuff makes more money than my work for three months straight I will start thinking about quiting.
 
And to add to my previous thought.

Actually working for someone will make you a better entrepreneur. At least that is how I feel. Now that I have worked for multiple businesses, management styles, with bad and good co-workers I know how a business can waste money / fail and it all happened without having to lose my money.

Or you can actually run a business and be successful or fail. And really learn how to run a business better. I have learn from my failures way more then my successes. If you are afraid to lose money then you shouldn't even think about being in any business.
 
I can't believe your thinking about not taking it.

Your current income $0. Job is going to help you make "decent money"

Here's what you get to look forward to now since you slacked off the past year and didnt make any other AM income.

Here's your life... work 9-5. come home at 5, bust your ass at AM until your successful and financially independent. Then you can think about quitting your job.
 
I would take the job. Guaranteed income unless you get fired or lose it somehow. Still, it sounds like it's going to pretty stable until you can get your side biz going.

I can say with confidence that if I was in your shoes, I would take it. In fact, I might start looking for a job soon because working from home all day is starting to wear on me. It's awesome but the income isn't guaranteed.
 
Take the job. Cut down on sleep and put in at least another 8 hours/day + weekends on your online stuff until you have a comfortable sum to fall back on. It'll be torture but trust me, it'll give you peace of mind. The worst thing you can do is make online a full-time gig when you have nothing to fall back on to if things go downhill. You'll be stressed, and it's hard making rational decisions when you're freaking out inside.

I'm saying this from experience.. I did an internship 9am-4pm (which I'd accepted the previous summer), then AM from 5pm-3:30am daily (plus hardcore hours on weekends). Slept until around 7am, back at work by 9am. I was making more in a day with AM than I was the entire summer doing that internship, but (1) it secured me a full-time position that I can always fall back on, (2) gave me time to comfortably save up enough to not do shit for the next 10 years if I want. By the end of the summer I felt I was ready, had a good back-up, took a leave from University, and went full-time into AM.

I was more productive, and making more money, while I was working though.. I guess given the few hours I had off, I made the most of it. Plus most of my friends in AM were waking up by noon, by then I was usually halfway through my "job".. By the time they were getting going, I was back online and ready to grind.

Put in the hours, and take the job.
