Thanks very much, Matt!
Does anyone here utilize any of these techniques?
While I've never heard of this book before today, I've used a few of the techniques for quite some time.
PayPal is in Grandma's name. She'll never need it, and it keeps a barrier.
I've always put phones in fake names. Bob Lablah or Mike Hawk (not kidding). T-Mobile FlexPay is good for this... It is a little more pricey than a contract, but you can give total BS info (I use the addresses of strip joints, and 123-45-6789 as a SS#) if you do it right. Go to a ghetto part of town, find a hole in the wall retailer, and the young kid there won't give a fuck what you do.
Verizon is also good for this, as well as Cricket and Boost (I've done it with all of them, numerous times).
Skype can obviously be used with a pre-paid CC, and it sends out no bills and can be in a fake name. On top of that, Skype is much more secure than you'd think (google "skype encryption").
I always give fake names, numbers, addresses, etc. on almost all paperwork that isn't legal. According to the USPS, the guy that owns my mailbox @ my rented home is "C. Blackbeard" (yes, Captain Blackbeard), but regardless of the little tag in your mailbox, mail can come for you.
I never use a real signature... Even my "Real" signature is a complete mess and totally unreadable.
I use my mom's or grandma's PO box for most things, including my License, registration, etc. (also no emissions where they live).
As for remembering names, Bdays, etc for your own use, I simply use the names of my 2 best friends, one first, and one last... Mike Smith.
DOB is my same bday, but 2 years forward.
Ive never liked banks much, and they don't like me much, so I avoid them. If I absolutely need to get a check or wire, a family member or friend will always do it for me in a heartbeat, then use their debit/credit card to send the $ to my PayPal, where I can use the PayPal debit card for w/e.
For bill payments, I usually pay in cash, or I put $ onto a prepaid CC in a false name and use that. This goes for my phone, insurance, and many other bills.
It's not much, but it keeps a lot of shit just a little more hidden.
Pipl.com doesn't show any address for me, and one of the other really popular "people" engines showed my address as a house I moved out of, in another state, 7 years ago. Same with phone numbers. So it makes me kind of a pain.
Of course, Facebook and Myspace also keep outdated "Location" info as well... As my real friends already know where I am.
