Godaddy currently has a $0.99 promotion running for new .COM domains until August 31, 2010. So with fees that comes out to a cool $1.17 per domain.
...use the code SCHOOL99...

I prefer Namecheap... but the price is pretty good.

after whois protection it costs the same as namecheap without namecheap promo code...

Yeah, BS.

Does anyone know a workaround, i.e. some sort of proxy that can let you register privately without going through godaddys system?

whois protection isn't really a huge deal.. considering if anything legal was to occur anyways they can still get your info. Also with whois protection, theres been claims of registrar's stealing the domains / stories of you never even owning the domain in the first place.

you can easily spoof your data on GD when registering - no need for whois protection.

I saw a commercial on TV with hot chicks on it and wanted to see the rest of the story so I went to godaddy.com and bought some domain names ...

go daddy is for bloggin DP socermoms that need a biggdaddy up inside the caddy --- or as in seoholic's case the dick all up in his face

that's what "Good as gold" is for, you pay with "money orders" and you even get a discount, they don't have to know jack :)

Really -- even with my visa receipt from the registrar with my domain name on it?

PS: FUCK go daddy

Lots of my clients use Godaddy. Even for hosting. I should charge more when they do. I know the interface will be a nightmare.

And their hosting is about twice as slow as my cheapest shared hosting. I have seen that in Google Webmaster Tools.
