I'm sure a few of you have been following the recent primaries. Months ago, the Republicans figured Democrats were going to take a drubbing in November. Things are uncertain now. Palin's endorsement seems to count, and she's not backing the GOP candidates.

Here's a quick rundown by Ed Rollins...

Primaries prove Palin, Tea Party are for real - CNN.com

Tea Party candidates have won several primaries. A lot of folks think these victories guarantee the seats to the Democrats. Even guys like Rollins (a political strategist who has been in the Beltway for decades) seem to have been blindsided.

Should make for an interesting election.

its all the same, there are no parties

all politicians are fucking scum

Truth. This is why we need to band together and pick some people to run and do some viral marketing to push them into the public eye and help them win. They don't' even have to be people here, just someone who is unknown and wants to run for the office, but is a long shot for getting it. We call them up and make sure they'll pay the fee for running and we'll do the rest.

The government won't change unless you remove the root cause for the corruption in the first place. That's why you need people who haven't spent their whole life doing shady things for their office, but still have a great vision and the mind to make it happen, to replace the ones that are currently there.

So the conservative vote will be split between republicans, libertarians, and now tea partiers. Honest question, is this good or bad for republicans?

My gut says it's bad for Republicans. The Tea Party candidates could end up having the same effect as Ross Perot, clearing the path for Democrats to secure the House. Even if TP candidates make it to DC on Republican tickets, they're unlikely to fall into line. It won't be like Bush Jr.'s House.

I remember months ago Rollins was cautioning the GOP against trying to ride on the back of the Tea Party movement. He said the GOP was likely to get thrown.

He may be right.

I'd much rather have the GOP lose this time but gain some real conservatives into the party, rather than keep the same hypocrite big spenders like many of them now.

The Tea Party movement started out great, but it's really turned into a clone of the Republican party for what they say they stand for.

If this were a presidential primary, it'd be bad since the GOP is an all-or-nothing win - which is why McCain won there. Since it's not, I really think that people who are following the Tea Party movement will vote, in the end, for the best candidate that is closest to their beliefs and not for a particular party. Which, will probably be the Republican leading in the polls.

Fucking terrible, imo.

Yep. Christine O'Donnell is a nut job, and that is really saying something when you keep company with Sharron Angle.

A hard core tea partier told me he would rather Christine O'Donnell lose the election if it meant purging the party of moderates like Castle (moderates are bad mmmkay)

Yeah the Republicans were looking hot for a take over a few months ago. Now it's pretty much crap because of the teabaggers. They will still gain some seats in the house maybe a couple in the senate but that's about it. Local elections are anyone's guess though.

I was under the impression that the majority of the "Tea Party" movement was related to fiscal conservatism... yet several of the Tea Party candidates who won (more so the Palin endorsed ones) are just as much about family values as anything else.

So Fiscal & Social conservatives.... Republicans?

Exactly. Libertarians should be PISSED about how these wackos came along and played to the libertarian tune but are really just the old news extreme Right masquerading in Libertarian clothes. And just when the libertarian movement was starting to get some real gain, too. After this election and when the tea party movement finally dies everyone will associate Libertarian with Tea Party movement.

It won't gain legs again for YEARS.

Probably bad for the Republicans. All I've seen from the Pee Party is alienation towards other Republicans. If the Tea Party is going to succeed, and my guess it really won't, but if it does, then we'll see a right wing that is so ridiculously far to the right. I mean, the language their using makes it sound like another Hamas. A terrorist organization disguising themselves as a political party. There's plenty of documentation where "Second Amendment Solutions" were not only suggested, but encouraged. While they haven't gone that far, I'm seeing a tea party where the right is moving further and further to the right, each of the politicians running on this ticket are simply trying to out-extremist the next.

I'm not calling the Tea Party a terrorist organization. I'm simply pointing out similarities. I don't like where it's going, I think that if it gets any more momentum, we may have some trouble with these guys.

There's my $.02. Have at it.

Ron Paul needs to step up and rep the libertarians.

the chance that republicans will take the house in the fall has now fallen to 70% on intrade. So the market must view this as bad news.

From what I said, the Democrats have a lot to lose from having Liberal third parties. Of course, being an Independent voter, I find that to be a great thing. I don't like either party, and I'd rather see various third parties splitting both the right and left vote. I'm against any extremist party, and I have my fears about the Tea Party, just as if the ALF started running a candidate.
