Maybe shit like this just doesn't phase me, I don't know. But my take on it is this:
1. I can't fathom $16mil as I've never even been remotely close to it.
2. Personally, I don't believe that Jon would lie about something like this. From what I've seen, he seems to be a genuine person. No, I'm not sucking up, just making a personal observation.
3. Playing the devil's advocate, let's assume that this was all just a grand linkbait scheme. Why is that so terrible? This is a marketing forum, right? So, wouldn't creative marketing be something that we should appreciate, even applaud? It seems very hypocritical to talk about how to better market our sites then turn around and get pissed when someone actually does it.
4. Why has so much time and energy been spent debating this? I've actually got some work done today, and everytime I've checked in to WF today, there are more posts on this topic and little else where it would be useful or helpful.
If this was just linkbait, then I applaud Jon for the creativity and buzz it created. If it was a real offer, then I'm thankful he didn't sell. Regardless, it's been an entertaining day watching the reactions to his post.
