After I switched to 2 lightweight graphic applications I also went ahead and looked for lightweight Excel alternatives...

For anyone else interested in lightweight stuff, these 2 lightweight Excel programs will save you load waiting time:

Spread32
Superlightweight, loads instantly, like notepad:

Gnumeric
Powerful/feature rich, only a bit slower to start, on my minilaptop it loads in 3 seconds, a lot faster then excel wich takes 25 seonds to load on the minilaptop I did the testing on:

These are alternatives to excel in the same way that notepad is an alternative to Word.

Out of curiosity, what specifically don't you like about excel?

Google drive has a good spreadsheet program that has lots of cool functions as well.

None of the above programs handle pivot tables or other stuff like that I believe.

I've been using these type of excel alternatives for years as a Linux user and, for 80% of people, it can be a complete replacement for excel.

Excel 2013 loads in 2 seconds on my machine, a basic MacBook Pro with an SSD running Windows 8.

Anyway, Microsoft has their own Excel web app as part of Skydrive that is fully featured and kills Googles' offering. www.skydrive.com

The Excel 2013 software on my PC also syncs spreadsheets with Skydrive, so I can update it via the webapp elsewhere or on my phone, and then later load the old file I have stored on my PC and it will sync up with the Skydrive stored spreadsheet. Or edits that I make in Excel 2013 get sync'd with Skydrive.

Of course, it all syncs up with Excel on my Windows Phone 8 device too.

Fucking killer stuff, but MS never get any recognition for it. Fuck google, I'm done with them. I moved from Gmail to Outlook.com, and I'm moving all my websites that use Google Apps for mail to Outlook as well, they offer the same shit for free.

WTF? You might want to get a real computer OP. Excel takes 1 second to load here, if I count really fast.

Yeah, no kidding.

OP, try upgrading from your Pentium III chip to something newer.

I use Excel for basic stuff only, like keyword lists and I do some calculations in my revenue/profit/roi administration sheet.
I don't need pivot tables etc and advanced stuff like that.

The laptop I have is an Asus EeePC, Atom CPU N550 1.5 GHz with 1 gig of ram and running win7 (duel monitor setup).
I bought it a few years ago cause it's nice and mobile for bringing on vacation. I never returned from vacation.

Anyway, for me those 2 lightweight apps cover all that I need, so I'm happy with them. I figured some other peeps would appreciate the lightweightness also, but I didn't realize my load time was so super slow compared to the norm...

I didn't think Win 7 could even run on a single gig of ram, plus you're running two monitors without any dedicated video card, so they'll also be putting a burden on that poor gig of ram. Yeah, you might want to look at getting a more capable ultra portable, something with at least 4gb of ram, but preferably 8gb with a SSD and a dedicated video card. I can't imagine working on a setup like that. It would drive me mad.

Kingsoft office is exact fucking copy of Office. I use it on one of my notebooks which didn't come bundle with office. It works nicely. you can also export your files as PDF with one click.
