So I just WASTED 2 days trying to get this Ubuntu install to recognize my wireless card.

Turns out this is the 1 (!) card that is completely unable to work under liux, whatever you do. :error:

So I either give up on this linux crap altogether or get another wireless card.

FUCK!

Happy 2007! :D

Already figured as much.

I AM quite happy with XP, just concerned about the Vista shit, actually.

DRM in Vista (and it *will* creep into XP) is teh suck.
Yes, I know we're all not planning on using Vista anytime soon, but the time will come around when M$ just drops support for anything prior. Happened before, it will happen again.

argh,...

At least my content sites made some money yesterday eve and today...

D-Link DWL510G

Well, the card is a d-link DWL510g :error::error::error::error:

I installed the windows driver under Ndiswrapper, and although the card is shown, it does not respond to the network manager. (A common enough symptom as I later found out)

Tried two other windows drivers that were recommended, but they would not even load into the wrapper.

Some more digging found me an open source driver some enthusiast is developing, but there seems to be a bug in the Makefile, as it removes everything from the directory (in an attempt to create a new subdir, I GUESS) and then can't find the files it needs.

So..... I dug some more and just got a lot of people actually recommending to get another card. Also found a lot of people who were really happy with that solution. :D

I'll do that tomorrow.

yeah the d-link cards have a chipset that's not really supported under linux
I tried getting it to work myself but gave up and bought another card for $15

network manager has some problems so I would manually connect when I knew what the network name was
I forgot the syntax but you can find it in the man file

And if you do alot of programming for a linux enviroment.. windows blows chunks. And linux desktops blow chunks... so mac is #1 for me.

Sorry for that.

I am actually not puking on MACs but on most of their user^H^H^H^H^H^H fanboy base.

"Get a MAC and the world will turn pink and flawless" just has this effect on me.

A mac is just a computer. Nicely designed and way too expensive.

As a computer, macs also have their troubles and most mac users are completely lost when their machine goes belly up.

Most of the macies I've met are also arrogant assholes to boot.

If you're not one of them, I apologize.

expensive, to some its worth it.. for instance for those that spend 14 hours a day in front of them!

Textmate is great but I really really hate that you cant open files from ftp into tabs! wtf!

Fenryr, we need to PM a little about the attack plan Germany.. LOL.

I just got a macbook pro a few days ago. I really really like it. It doesn't fight me like windows does.

I am an A+ , Network + and MCP so I DO know my way around PC's in case anyone is a smartass.

With bootcamp it's like having two computers in one. I'm in heaven.

I run Windows on my main computer and then a laptop with Fedora 6, probably gonna switch to Gentoo soon as the laptop ain't that good
