2013 MacBook Air

While browsing laptops at Best Buy, I was sorely disappointed at the Windows laptops. Not just because of Windows 8, but by the general lack of build quality. There is not a PC out there, that I can find, that can offer the same kind of specs that Apple can, at least for the same price.

The build quality is unrivaled and this one of the things I realised the most when I was looking at laptops the other day. When I was seeing what one to get I kept going over to the macbook pro to remind me what kind of qualities I'm looking for.

If a new macbook pro wasn't just around the corner, and I didn't urgently need to buy a laptop I may have been tempted to take the plunge but I'm more than content with windows 7's no nonsense approach, and am happy to save Apple's niceties for my phone.

fwiw I'm not a huge OSX fan either, probably because I grew up from DOS > Win 3.x > every version of Windows until now and I just can't be bothered to build up the same knowledge in OSX.

I run Win 7 on this thing without a hitch and it works fucking great; feels right at home on my MBA. Even supports multi-touch trackpad, ambient lighting and other Apple-faggy shit that I've grown to take for granted.

If it were 2011 I would probably harikari reading the shit I am writing :lol

I bought a macbook pro and I'm kind of hating life. After almost 20 years using a PC, this is umm.. interesting. I feel like im learning how to use a computer again for the first time.

I bought a MacBook Pro 2 years ago and still have not fully adjusted. The build quality is great, but I am not really a fan of OSX. I doubt I will buy another when I decide to replace it

Things that seem small like wanting to have folders listed before files, but not being able to do it can be really annoying after viewing them that way in Windows for years. Most of the apple fanboy sites say "just sort by type", but that is not the same.

When first using a mouse with it, I really hated the OSX mouse acceleration... entering "defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling -1" in the command line made it more tolerable.

Lol. I went through that phase as well. Probably took a week or 2 to get comfortable with it.

Yeah, Finder totally fucking sucks vs basically any other file manager you've ever used. There are both paid and free ways arounds this. Personally I use XtraFinder (free) to add all the functionality you would expect.

You know you are winning when the only complaint is it cost too much.

Thought of you all when I came across this.

How about suicide nets at Apple's factories?

I could go on and on about all the terrible practices Apple institutes on both sides of the coin, but the one that is most disturbing is Apple’s assault on basic human rights. I would categorize the ability to use my phone’s camera for pictures and video recording as a basic human right.
This will be drastically regulated in the near future with the institution of U.S. Patent No. 8,254,902 better known as “apparatus and methods for enforcement of policies upon a wireless device.” The patent granted in August 2012 gives Governments, businesses, and network owners the right to disable your camera, wi-fi and video capabilities on an iPhone for any reason, at any time. Apple, being the sneaky innovators they are, will pre-package this application into the phones and most likely all other mobile products in the future.

Put Win 7 on there using Bootcamp.. the keys map fine and you'll be much happier.

Been running Win 7 on my MBA since the day I purchased it and would not consider moving to OSX.

I bought this thing for the hardware, not the OS.
