A) I don't know (or care) what the Torygraph is.
B) Team building is for bath houses.
C) You misspelled 'color'.
D) I don't wear 'knickers'.
E) GFY you limey queer.
F) Welcome to WickedFire! Have a jolly time!
Oh that's fucking classic. BTW I am seriously taking into consideration doing the HQ video of me coding stuff like that. So... They made code that reads colors? I have code that reads captcha's and formulates them into actual words. Want to know how I compare these? Who gives a shit! The fucking datafeed HAS THE COLORS IN THE TITLES!
You're kidding right a bunch of Affiliate "marketers" getting their knickers in a twist about some web designers and developers building something in 3 days?
I was part of the dev team and yes the colour matching needs a bit of work, do you know how difficult it is to do colour comparisons? We actually have the maths now to do LAB colour comparison rather than RGB which is much more accurate and the successful buyer may want to look at that.
We have a custom bit of code that takes the product image, highlights the main product from the background then gets the main blob of colour. From there it can give you an average colour or use a histogram. That is some kick ass code and something none of us web devs have ever done before, you try that in 24 hours.
Also try coming up with a Brand and design that is close to that in 24 hours.
Rather than snipping away you could put your affiliate marketing bollocks where you mouths are and come up with something better, in 24 hours with no sleep.
But you all know it was just a bit of a marketing jolly, us as a development team had a great laugh and it was the first time we had worked in the same office as the designers and the marketing guys so it was great for team building.
Someone has a nice site for $5k
Oh and we got in the Torygraph today......
If it didn't, that's the merchant's problem not yours. Ask for it. That probably would have shaved off ... what, 6 hours of 'coding'? SELECT * FROM `products` WHERE `title` LIKE '%GREEN%'. Also just to remind you, come up with a brand and launch it in under 24 hours? Do you even know what the fuck we do? If I launch less than like.. fuck, even underestimating... 6 branded sites a day, I'm slacking. Also just to throw this out there, I have software that does all that. Literally. Takes about 45 seconds to throw up a site like yours (without the fancy graphics, don't get me wrong) but same functionality across multiple niches. Deployment systems ftw (and I wrote that skeleton + deployment in under 5 hours).
Now I will admit, I like how the graphics are on the site and how you branded it that way. I'm not saying it wasn't a good example of what could be done, but for God's sake that's an embarrassment for $20,000. I know a few people here that can turn 20K into 50K in 24 hours. Granted they already have the data, but it's reality here - it can be done.
I don't know, I'm just ranting at this point. You need to realize as well that we're all comparing completely different work ethics and lifestyles here. You won't find one of your coders as motivated as one of ours when it comes to projects like this. If you think 24 hours straight is a harsh stretch, you really haven't looked into our industry much - especially the coders side of it. It's literally comparing apples to oranges - we're talking about $20,000 and a.. (assuming this one) 10 man team for 24 hours, verses $30 (counting $18-20 on redbull) and 12 hours for 1 person. It's just the difference in the markets man. While your guys are designing shopping carts and form generators we're making link spam programs, captcha-cracking applications and PPC tracking systems. It's completely a different skillset and caliber of work - and the project you just showed is basically our specialty.
That's all I'm saying - and HAPPY HOLIDAYS! :smilie_weihn_winki:
Edit: The 12 hours now that I think about it, is grossly overestimated.
Edit 2: I'm not trying to say your project was a failure, shit if I could sell a site like that for $5000, even $2500, every time - I would have over $10,000,000 in my bank account right now. Let me know if your marketing team wants a cut for selling sites like those, I can give you.. uh.. as many as you can get domains for.
