7 Day Juicing Fast

I'm getting my blender tomorrow and am thinking about going on a 7 day juicing fast. Has anyone else here done it? The idea came from

I'm on Paleo and have done IF before so I don't imagine the change would be that crazy however I've never fasted for more than a day before.

I saw that movie on Amazon Prime free. I don't think I would really call that fasting.

You also could use a blender vs juicer to keep some fiber going.

It is a fruit and vegetable diet mostly. And you could keep having meat like chicken and it would be quite effective.

Pretty good movie IMO. The truck driver he helps really pulls it together.

I dunno about juice fasting - but I drank my own version of mean green in morning for extra energy for months. When the 30 min prep time in the morning wasn't annoying - there was A LOT of excess energy to be had.

I did a fast for 10 days once but it was mostly water and a little juice. After a couple days, toxins will probably release from your organs and you may experience aches and pains. I've fasted twice for 7 to 10 days and both times my mind became super sharp and clear.

I go about 3 or 4 days once a month or so. Just to give the body a quick cleaning. I wouldn't want to go 7+ days though, as I don't believe that's very healthy, and would probably start screwing up your body.

I did it for 10 days one time. The first 3 days are hell, after that you'll feel better every day. The slightest exercise even just running a mile burns a lot of fat.
The wildest sensation is the sense of nothing in terms of hunger by the end. You dont realize how often you're either full or hungry. It's very strange to feel neither for a long period.

This sounds off-putting. Does anyone experience this as well? I've tried fasting on water only and the headaches were so horrible by 2 day that I had to quit. Ok, I might have done physical activity, moving around which I read isn't recommended but still, what's up with that?

I've heard a lot of people say that fasting (water only) for 24 hours once a week is super good for your health (apparently it helps to reduce visceral fat as well). Plus it's not as difficult as going for 2-3 days without any food.

There was a documentary I liked about that somewhere, let me find it real quick...

(it's probably all BS, I don't actually know much about fasting)

Probably sugar and/or caffeine withdrawal. I get caffeine withdrawal symptoms (headaches) about 4-8 hours after missing my morning coffee, lol!

Why not do a juice FEAST instead? Eating tons of fruits and vegetable is not fasting, it's giving your body the nourishment it needs and desires. I wouldn't get too hung up on naturopathic concepts of "detoxification". I'd see it more in a symbolic context...you're mentally releasing all that crap that you've put into your body before to create a new way of life, a new diet...a promise to yourself to improve and thrive ...to realize your full potential.

A proper diet is necessary, and giving your body the nutrients and micronutrients though fruits and leafy greens is a good idea, especially if your regular diet consists of deep fried pop-tarts.

Most Americans eat too many carbs / sugars / starches so when you go from all that day to day every day to NOTHING (water) it's going to be hell for sometimes two weeks. Feeling starving, craving sweets, etc...

I'd suggest a highly reduced carb intake before trying water fasting or you are going to have insane headaches, cravings, lightheaded and more most likely. Juice fasting is going to be a roller coaster too as your constantly spiking your blood sugar... I`d keep juice intake on a strict schedule so you can control/predict your increases/decreases.

I've done some fasting. Have a few tips.

For your first attempt at fasting I'd recommend a shorter duration than 7 days. Try 3-4 days and if you do good on that, go longer on your next fast.

How you break your fast is important. Do NOT eat a large heavy meal when you break your fast. Something light like soup is good for when you end your fast. Just ease back into solid food slowly and give your body time to readjust.

I've fasted one day every week for the past 2-3 months. Don't think I'll ever stop.

You feel amazing, sleep well, and after doing it for a month you can exercise at a level you can't achieve if you eat.

From an evolutionary standpoint it makes sense. I don't think our ancestors were eating 3 meals every day.

I have a lot of friends who swear by it, but I don't think any of them actually ever made their drinks themselves. I guess Trader Joes sells juices that are pretty good for them though if anyone is interested.

Depends on where they were living, but they would likely have been snacking a lot, eating everything they came into contact with from berries, to nuts, to insects and if they lived by water, then likely a lot of fish.

If you could do it, I think a fish, nuts and green diet would be very healthy.

For some reason these juicing fasts trigger my bullshit detector. Does anyone have any links to research that shows doing this is beneficial for your health/wellbeing?

I started doing a 3 day juice (no blending, only juicing) fast every spring since 2011. I recorded my fastest 5k run at the end of the last one - 21 minutes. I usually drink six 350 ml drinks each day of the fast. It's good to do a prep day before you actually start - soups and whole food plants. Once your body goes into "fast mode" the hunger pangs go away. I found time noticeably seemed to slow down during the fast. It also put into perspective how much energy and time is normally spent eating throughout the day. You'll feel great afterwords (don't pig out on crap when its over though) and don't cheat during it.

I've done multiple 7 day fasts and 2 10 day fasts. I get the muscle/body aches every time around day 3 and for me they are over by day 4. Day 3 for me is by far the roughest day every time I fast.

Like someone said above the biggest surprise for me when I first did the fast was the fact that you really aren't hungry past day 2. Once you get past the body aches it's smooth sailing, it's like your brain figures there isn't any food available so you just don't feel hungry. I never get the sense of acute awareness or focus.

You do get to a point where you get ideas like you could just go the rest of your life without eating. Every time I've ended a fast it's not out of necessity to eat.

Chewing feels really weird after 10 days of juice.
